I've been trying to think of a way to set up my flash guns off camera, but im trying to save a small amount of money as I don't really need 3 pocketwizards. Bit of an essay, but the idea is:

Setup pocketwizards, run the sync cable out into a Canon TTL distributor, and then run two cables out into each flash gun using Canon's off camera shoe mounts or sync ports?

The question is, will it work? The theory works in my head, but has anyone tried anything like this?

What I do is plug a cable into the pocketwizard and then a splitter on top of that, onto two sync cords.. perfectly possible with two.. three or four might be pushing it but I couldnt say for certain.

That was my main worry, I don't want to experiment only to go and ruin £300 worth of flash guns.

Are you planning a specific scenario?

Where are you shooting? How are your flashes grouped? Are there other flashes going off? What gear have you already got?

In lieu of answers, here's a stab in the dark 

My plan to use 3 flashes but save on radio slaves is to use one radio slave to trigger the other two flashes optically.

The radio slave gives you freedom/range from the primary flash and the optical should kick in OK.  Optical is built in to some flashes or can be bought as a hotshoe adaptor for a fiver.

This won't work
- if your optical flashes can't 'see' the primary.
- other flashes going off in the area

For my idea, where all 3 flashes light the rider, the cross-fire of light should mean they easily see each other.  Anyone else with a P&S can also piggyback my optical slaves if I let them!
