i have just started taking photos and a freind of mine told me to put a pic up and ask what i could improve on and what is good about it......

as for the photo , its got nice light but the composition could be better , try to show where he is going/come from ? and try to use the rule of 3rds ( google it )

Composition is the biggest thing! Everyones probably going to moan at me for saying this but "rule of thirds." If you don't know what it is, basically split your image into thirds horizontally and vertically, and line your main point(s) of focus up with these lines.

For Example (Milky, yours happened to be what I had open in flickr Tongue)



You don't have to stick to this, its a "rule" of traditional photography, but it certainly works. If you break it have a good reason for it, because anyone with a good eye will rip your work to shreds.


Try to keep annoying stuff out of the foreground, like the tape.

It also seems like you've used auto mode or Program mode?  If you have, get learning on manual mode, you'll get better results

That shot is ok but shooting away from the sun is something to think about as it naturally lights stuff up for you and you won't get glare.
