Is software piracy not as rife with you video folk then? Every young man and his dog has a copy of Photoshop CS3, and you know for a fact none of them are legal!

The problem with ripping off editing programs are the updates. There are new codecs and video formats coming out all the time, so editing programs are regularly updated. Most of the proper programs will crash if you try to upload updates on a cracked copy.

There is no "best" editing software, each have their own quirks, and how well you get on with the interface is more important than pretty much anything else.
