Shoulder Operation (another!)
« on: September 14, 2008, 15:02:35 PM »

I have not long come out of hospital from an operation on my right shoulder 10 months after one on my left.

This time it was for a Grade 3 separation, the surgeon put a piece of nylon in to replace the snapped ligament and then decided to pinch a ligament from somewhere else in my shoulder, and screwed it on to my colar bone for additional support!

The nerve block which is supposed to paralayse your arm for the first 48 hours didn't work, so morphine and a passing out with pain was mode for the first 4 days, I'm still in agony only warmed by the thought the weather is crap anyway.

Although they say I won't ride for 3 months I'm sure it will be more like 1 month.

Question: Will a screw in your shoulder be picked up by the metal detectors at the airport or is it too small?

Mate, they said 3 months for me, it's looking more towards 5 or 6 with another operation. :'(

Don't go back early, or you'll have troubles for the rest of your life.

You'd be doing well to avoid any longer than 3 months out after than mate.  It's a w*nk*r.  But better to have it done and dusted now, get the healing sorted and you're away.

I've been pratting around with 2 buggered shoulders for the last year, 3 ops so far and at least one to go, separations and shattered collarbones in both, stick with your physio, get it done and you'll be all the stronger for it once you do get back on the bike.  Rush it and you'l only end up f'ing yourself up more.

As for the screw.  It's touch and go, my left shoulder set shop alarm things off but not airport metal detectors, my right shoulder sets them both off.  Score.

I feel like a criminal every time I walk in to or out of a shop...
