Lol I really wasn't trying to sound angry... sorry!
Rootes, your plate/operation thing sounds horrible... I ranaway when the doctor said that if I really wanted to I could get it plated or if I was worried cosmetically about the lump I could get it ground down in future... lovely!

I've had op's on both shoulders now, each one's been plated. The left side was a minging break...the right side that I did second was even worse. Not cool.
I was in a crap position with it really, I lost movement of my right arm totally prior to the op, and didn't regain any real movement until two weeks after the op...the option of amputation scared me more than the idea of a steel plate if I'm honest.

Jesus man. Seems like i got off easy. i've been told 10 weeks max and i think apart from a few bad jolts like from trying to play football with some mates (which probably wasnt a gd idea 2/3 weeks down the line ) i've been quite gd with it and accept for grim lumps at either end of my left shoulder it should heal quite nicely
I was at Centre Parcs the next day.. rideing one handed and no handed. ...get the blood pumping!
Then after 7 weeks i did some slow rideing. a few little trails ect then 8 weeks i was back on slowly getting back up 10 weeks and i was back to full speed and near to full confidance!
Yeah as said anti-inflammitories work by reducing the blood around the break. Reducing the amount of blood there slows the healing process, but reduces pressure (which you notice as pain).
12 weeks for me, still in pain and still can't lift above my head 3rd visit to the consultaint and now they are talking about surgery (Plate and bone craft) and was told at the time of break it was a classic collar bone break and will repair in 6 weeks :'( Morzine in 2 weeks as well
I feel for you dude its crap when you cant ride you just got to sit it out.
I snapped my shoulder blade completely in september on my bike, then went snowboarding at xmas and snapped my collarbone on the same shoulder. You want to get a stress ball, to try and keep your muscle going in your lower arm, calcium, condrotin, glucosamine sulphate tablets will all help the area of trauma. Eat loads of protein aswell it helps rebuild the area because its not just the bone thats affected. At about the 6 week mark get in the pool and gently build your shoulders up swimming, and physio. Once you dont feel pain start building up with light weights. I was told if i did it again within the same year that shoulder would of had it... I'm still not on the downhill bike, doing xc and all mountain riding now for abit.
I wouldnt rush back to crazy riding wait till its super strong and recovered.
I'm doing pretty much the same as Leonwright. XC and all mountain for this year, got shot of my DH bike to rid me of some of the temptation. Both my arms feel super weak right now but I've got the powerball going on, and some weights. Push ups etc.
It's a long road after a major break. If it's a simple break then it's not so bad as hopefully you won't get as much muscle atrophy.
ahh man. i am desperately hoping that mine isnt bad enough to put me out of downhill for a year. I'm moving to new Zealand over the summer and was hoping to be riding when i settle there in mid-october oh well i like swimming so i will just try and swim as much as possible and hopefully be good again soon
ive just broken mine (tuesday) but did a good enough job on it to get it operated on (tomorrow) gonna have a titanium plate put in to keep all the bits together, broke it in two places

matt.
Not cool
Them using Ti indicates that they're intending to leave it in rather than take it out after 18months/two years? I've got steel because they're planning to take it out after 18months.
