Broken collar bone :(
|
Went to the hospital today guys. All good news. Had an x-ray and it's healing nicely because i've been so good with keeping my shoulders in the right position and sleeping on my back with no pillows for four weeks (so might treat myself to one pillow tonight). So hopefully just build muscles over the next 4 weeks and i'll be fine for when i next get to go riding, in November. Wish you all the best and hope you have a quick recovery because although you should be fine they seem more serious than mine. (My dad had a really bad one skiing and he has huge lumps in his shoulder but had no operations (when maybe he should have) and except for feeling twinges now and then he's fine ) Laters, Andy

Hey guys and gals, I really need some advice......
I broke my collarbone about 18 months ago, (and rode home afterwards no less!! -no thanks to my riding buddies!) After it had healed, I thought nothing of it, but 6 weeks ago, i was deadlifting about 80 - 100kg's on that arm, when I felt a crack, and my shoulder visibly moved down about 1/5th to 1/4 of an inch.
I have been obsessing that it is now a completely different shape to how it was after the first break, and have had so many different diagnoses, that i am now confused.
I have broken so many bits and bobs on myself over the time i have been biking, and I like to think that by now, I know when something still aint right.
I can't keep my arm in a sling because it actually hurts more than NOT using one. Sleeping is constant agony , and i frequently only get 3-5 hours or less a night. The painkillers (Diclofenac and Dihydrocodeine) don't seem to do much, but then I'm usually like that with painkillers. My shoulder grinds whenever and however i move it.
Anyway, I have been told things ranging from ''there is nothing wrong with your shoulder, take these painkillers, go home and get some rest for a week or so'' to ''there is clear evidence of a re-fracture, and so use this sling and these painkillers and come back and see our fracture clinic in 4 weeks''
I have xrays and doctors notes, but wha the NHS has done so far doesn't seem to stop the pain that occurs EVERY day and EVERY night .
All in all though, all anyone keeps doing is prescribing painkillers and slings, even after i have told them of my reasons for not endorsing the sling, and the ineffectiveness of the pills they seem to want to get down my throat.
I have just been given another doctors note, to make an appointment at another fracture clinic, and whilst i know you guys are here for being bikers like myself, and not doctors, I am hoping someone else has had some experience of this that they can share.
I really hate moaning, but after six weeks+ of little sleep, I am now desperate!!
to top it all off, I just recently found out my chainstay snapped 1 day out of warranty!!!!
so far 2008 aint shaping out too great!!!

It def sounds like it broken again mate, i know what you mean about the pain. my shoulder in now shorter and sits an inch lower than the good shoulder. i cant use my sling cause of the pain it produces, i can only manage 10 mins in the sling before im in mega pain, feels like a trapped nerv. Take the painkillers, its not going to stop the pain but should take the edge off. other than that mate keep pushing the docs and hospital. Let us know what they say. im not coming up to week 3 of having my collerbone broken. im sleeping shed loads better. but still get pain if i do to much with it or lift it to high. july 2008 oct 2006 (2 breaks)
