they are very nice but quite old now. wait to see what canon replaces it with later this year.
I didn't think it was this year it was being replaced?
As far as I found out when researching the other week was that they've only recently released a statement saying they're gonna start working on a replacement.
So have they already started and plan to have it out before christmas or what?
To stick to the thread title, the 5D is an awesome camera, I'd love one, especially if my 40D is anything to go by!

Considering the 5D has been around for a few years and it is still keeping up with everything else similar, surely that alone proves how good it is? I used a D300 the other day, and I still prefered my old 5D, and I would say the results were better too. I only got rid of mine because I wanted a 1D, but in some situations I wish I still had it, and I really miss the full frame sensor!

from what ive been told canon will be bringing a couple of updated cameras at the end of the year. the 1dmk3 will be updated as its pants from what ive read, more so when you compare it to the nikon d3. the 5d is something like 3 or 4 years old now so is in need of an update. there are a few threads on sites speculating what it will be like, more pixels, weather sealing, faster frames per sec and better noise handling.
talking of new things anyone had a go on photoshop cs4 yet? oh its a goody.

I think the 5D isn't really regarded as a camera to shoot sports because it can only fire 3 frames per second. Personally, I'd sacrifice that for a full frame sensor...

The 5D is at the end of the line in terms of model life. Canon were expecting to replace it this year at PMA but didn't, so are expected to release one in August or Sept.
They're great cameras and I really wanted one but couldn't justify the extra for slower fps compared to my 40d, you're basically paying for the full frame although there are upgrades elsewhere.

Sorry, but 3 fps is easily fast enough for most applications, but you soon get bored of making compositions. I think most of the time I took most of my sports shots on single shot and just got good at timing. The 5D is easily a better camera than the 40, full frame really is worth it, plus the 12.8mp is a nice size. There is also the fact that stock image companies such as getty will accept images from a 5D as they realised how good the camera is.

Obviously its a better camera, I'm not denying that, but with 3fps you'd be hard put to do decent sequence shots over jumps at speed and for the money, you'd be looking at 500 body only for a 40d and at least twice as much for the 5d. It may be a better camera but in my book its not twice as good as a 40d...

i would up date with a 40d, good rez, 6.5fps, live view and loads of other updates from the 20/30d's. the old 5d is more a landscape/portrait than sports/action camera
