Chicksands 4x tripple cost me an arm and a leg! (Now with X-Rays!!)
« on: July 04, 2008, 08:57:01 AM »

Last Sunday I headed up to Chicksands with TooFatTooRide (Jerzy) for a good days riding.

After sucessfully conquering all the new Chickshore trails on my first attempt, and building my confidence on the Aston 4x track the previous Thursday (finally nailed the step-down-road-gap-thingy), I felt ready to pitch my skills at clearing the monsterous 4x tripple.

Had a few runs, nearly clearing it - landing hard on the third 'bump', but still taking the speed with me to ride the rest of the track - I decided to peddle a bit more to make it to the downslope....

..... and won a free trip to Bedford A&E, with an all inclusive 5 nights accomodation.

Mangled my right anke (got some hardware inside me now!), AND my right wrist.   Going to be in casts for agood while....

Big thanks to the guys at Chicky who helped stretcher me off, and to Jerzy for visiting me in hospital!!!

Got some X-rays on cd, which i'll upload later.

Ali

Ouch, doesn't sound good! Did you see the hot brunette girl on reception in A&E though? She's tasty!

I was in there the other day (not bike related, i fell over giving someone a piggy back and broke my nose) and saw some guy in hope shorts coming and out, then a bit later saw one of my old mates hobbling out in his riding kit clutching his ribs and not looking too cheerful! I wonder if bike related patient admissions are high enough for them to start getting copies of Dirt in for us to read?  Cheesy

Paul

Probs going to be in plaster for at least 7-8 weeks, and couple more nights on a ward (currently got massive bolt through my whole ankle, keeping it together!)

Riding is another matter. Soon taking up a new job which I can cycle too, so road cycling is prob a good way to get riding again (12m round trip).

Got a small pool up the road, so will be visitng there regularly once out of plaster.

I think I'm in a better position than many injured biker - Mum's a retired Occupational Therapist (wheelchair, bath seat, hand rails, etc - all sorted!!), Bro-in-Law's a Physio (rehab exercises sorted!), and Girlfriend's a Nurse!  (Now she can put that Nurses uniform to *ahem* proper use...)

Yeah, I saw it all happening - it was scary I should say. I am glad Ali has already been discharded from the hospital.

Shame it all happened. Not only Ali is in plaster for 6-8 weeks, but I lost I riding buddy to do DH riding around London. Now, there is nobody to ride with. What a f****g disaster...  Angry Angry Angry
