x-up's that hit my foot
« on: July 04, 2008, 21:53:07 PM »

o.k. well for dirt jumping i have used both kona stuff and specialized P2 and i have always found taht doing x-ups/barspins the wheel hits my foot unless its right on the edge pedal, (i was thinking of getting a SC jackal which eliminates that but cannot justify the money)

now i run 170mm cranks and 26" wheels on my P2 and this really annoys me, now i know i could take one foot off on x-ups but this doesn't look as stylish imo.

now is there something i'm missing because loads of people ride the same bikes and x-up/barspin faultlessly (i.e. mitch chubey on his P2 bar spin 360's)

is it best to run shorter cranks but tbh 5mm isn't going to make much difference.

so does everyone suffer this problem?

andd what do you do to overcome it?

I suffered when changing from BMX to mtb, realised I did'nt X-UP I X-Down as I goofy footed it.

Wasn't a problem on the BMX as there was tonnes of space with 150mm cranks.

Suppose shorter crank arms and skinny tyres might help otherwise it's time to learn it the other way.

frame with a slacker head angle, longer forks, smaller wheel, shorter cranks or longer top tube/larger frame.

the P series are notorious for this!

but yes, it does just look like you will have to x-up the other way. Its not hard!

X up the other as has been said or move your foot further back.

If you feel like it you could hack your toes off and wear smaller shoes but maybe you aren't one of these make-up wearing people who get pleasure from that sorta thing...

yer, i am trying to learn x-ups the other way but i am more scared of being half way though a barspin  and the spin stopping about 6 ft above the ground

The only cure I found was running 24s, not to everyones taste I know, and I have recently quit using them myself as I don't really want a dedicated jump bike anymore so one do it all HT with 26s and gears means I'll be scuffing my toes again...

What cranks were you running that are 150mm!? Most bmxers ride 170mm

a better solution is don't x-up, cos they are boring and look about as good as one handers (not very)
