2005 66rc too soft... why?
« on: July 04, 2008, 10:53:12 AM »

question for my mate who doesnt have acces to the net...
his bike got stolen recently however he managed to recover it.
but he noticed that his 2005 66rc forks seemed to be alot softer than usual...
not sure what the problem is, someone said they have air preload and so he should just top that up but i wasnt sure if they had air assist? and where would the valve be? (he doesnt live near me so i cant look at the forks to investigate)
if this isnt the problem, what other options are there considering they felt fine before so changing the spring isnt really an option. could there be an oil leak at all, would that affect how soft they are?
cheers aj

The person who nicked it played with the dials, and wound all the compression dampening off?

there should be an air assist valve in the gold adjusters up top, there are several dimples on the adjsuter and there will be a rubber cap in one of the dimples, or just a hole if he's lost the cap, in the hole he'll see a valve, he will need the marzocchi valve adaptor thing to pump em up, if they have no air in to his preference.

Sounds like air preload, but I think you need a special marzocchi air valve adapter to adjust the air preload.

I too have these forks, and being a big lad (14st), would like to pump a bit of air into them. Where do you get said air adapter? There is one on CRC but it states it is for use with 2007 air forks even though it looks right. Also, what is the max pressure for these forks as I don't want to blow the seals?

yeh turn the adjusters round till you see the hole. Screw the adapter in and screw pump onto that then pump up then unscrew adaptor with pump attached otherwise the air come out.
