spin doctor freehub
« on: July 05, 2008, 12:22:38 PM »

ok ive done 4 different searches, the first 3 didnt bring anything up at all, and the last one was just about bearings.

I need to know how to remove the freehub from a rear spin doctor.
Im pretty sure i need a new one as it doesnt engage or click at all, just goes round both ways silently.
I thought it was an allen key but theres nowhere to put it, as far as I can see...

anyone help?

cheers, Will.

I replaced mine a while ago and if I remember rightly:

You will need a 11mm allen key, and a f*ck load of leverage. I'm pretty sure you remove a bolt (11mm allen bolt) accessed from the non-driveside of the hub, you need to pop the bearing out with a puller (I managed without a puller but it's easy to screw the bearing or hub up). Once the bolt is removed, you pop the axle bearing out of the freehub body and remove the freehub using the allen key. The bolt and body are super tight so I got my lbs to do it for me as i didn't want to damage it. (I also didnt have an 11mm allen key at the time)

Hope this helps.
Jon

EDIT: you remove both axle bearings first, in order to access the bolts. Just re-read it and it didn't make much sense  Tongue

Nothing at all to do with a Torx headed tool....

  • Remove wheel from frame, take out QR
  • Take of two metal bearing covers ( should pull of by hand..)
  • Remove your cassette from the freehub
  • Lever out the dust cover from inside the freehub body ( you will need to take of the cassette lockring to access this..
  • Hit the axle with a hammer from non drive side, the bearing should pop out of the freehub body now..
  • Hit the axle from drive side now and the axle should come out with a lipped edge holding the non drive bearing, the larger of the two bearings in the hub..
  • Now insert an 11mm allen key into the hub from the non drive side and undo the bolt head that it will engage ( at this point you will remove a big chrome bolt with a spacer on the axle, this spacer is important, dont lose or forget where it goes..
  • Now using that same 11m allen key put it into the freehub body from drive side and it should lock into the freehub, again undo this and you will see it undo from the main hub body and come apart.

Voila you have now removed the freehub from your Spindoctor hub...

To fit the new freehub you can order one from your LBS or find one online as Ison, the UK distributors for Halo, don't deal with the public for orders.

To fit a new freehub once you have it just work back on the steps listed above but paying special attention to the dust seal that sits on the threaded part on the freehub BETWEEN THIS BIT AND THE MAIN HUB BODY and ensuring that silver spacer goes back on in the correct position or the hub will unscrew its self and jam....you don't want that!

Hope those clear instructions help you more than some of the stupid replys... ( come on, really where would a Torx key come into it??!!! )
