Remote flash -D40
« on: July 05, 2008, 16:11:48 PM »

Sorry to make another 'Which flash' thread, but I've searched and whilst they did help, I'm still a bit stuck.
I'm running a D40 at the moment and I want a remote flash, mainly for riding shots.
Budget is pretty tight but I'll stretch if it's necessary/really worth it.

Saw the SB-400 for what looked to be a good price, but at that price I can't help but think it's not that great?  Undecided
I'm not looking to buy the best gear at the moment, but I would like something that will last a year or two as I make progress with the camera.

Also, radio gear...
I haven't got a clue what to look for here, but from previous threads, the best place to pick it up is eBay?
If someone could give me an example of what I should be looking for that would be great.  Smiley

Cheers in advance.
Ben.

Ah great cheers for the feedback.

So the Vivitar's sounds promising.

I take it thats what I'm after?
Wasn't planning on buying for a while but there doesn't seem to be many of those listed that aren't from Hong Kong.. So if thats a good'un I think I'll start bidding.

i got mine from Hong Kong.. they came in less than a week!

Beware.. they are like the size of you arm.. they will make your d40 look tiny if you mount them on top!!

Its like a hot shoe...same shape and everything.. but it like.. not electrical
But basically i have one that's a Cold shoe on top and underneath it has a thread for a Tripod
So it can hold my flash onto a tripod.. its bascily an adaptor.
I should of called them tripod adaptors really!
You can run the cactus through a hotshoe as well. It attaches on the bottom of the flash. But it made it way too tall and way to wobble
So i run the cactus's through a Cord!
Fits so much nicer!

Yep should do!
That's the good thing about vivitar's they can mix with pretty much any cameras but not Minolta's and the same with cactus

Right I think I'll buy from Hong Kong. That flash I was keen on has gone higher than a new one now.

Grinch did you deal with Infinity Direct on eBay? Think I'm going to go with them, they've got loads of stock and a lot of people are praising them on the flickr boards.

Shopping list! :
Flash
Trigger

I take it that trigger connects to the hot shoe on the camera?
Or is there yet more stuff to be buying?! Cheesy

Sorry about all these questions.. I'm clueless!

Yea i bought from them!

you can connect it with the hotshoes.. or the flash will come with a cable that can connect to the flash.
I did that.. got a bit of elastic to hold it on the side.. bobs your uncle!
