"reveiws" section of the forum?
« on: July 06, 2008, 18:34:40 PM »

What about adding something like this;
http://www.ridestreet.co.uk/board/viewforum.php?f=10&st=0&sk=t&sd=d

To the SDH forum?

Itt'l ultimately (hopefully) stop the need for "i want this part yadda what do you think" threads and itt'l be a good guide for people that are looking for reveiws of a product that has been written by people who use the same tracks and trails as the potential buyer, and therefore will be a better reasource than places such as MTBR etc who's reveiwers will ride completely different tracks - if that makes sence?

Anyway, just a thought i had.

Yup, considering most parts in the industry have been well tested, i think it would be awesome.

Main problem being people writing s**t reviews, but if we report them, then bye bye Smiley

I can see this working well, if the titles of the topics are well labelled and clear.

The problem I see, is the reviewer might not be skilful/knowledgeable enough to test a product, and review it.

A handle-bar is a handlebar, isn't it?   Surely its down to the buyer to know how much sweep they like, what height, and what colour?

Some review by a 14 year old, saying how they felt less trail buzz, had more control over their bike, or rode in a better position, will not make me want to buy the handlebars!

I don't think the riders on this Forum will be pushing the products to their limit either, this applies to everything - frames, pedals, tyres, rims, hubs, etc.

Generally speaking, I skip to the last bit about what the reviewer has to say, and compare it to other reviews on the same product.   I did this before I bought my Pitch, but the key 'review' was my own ride around the Shop's carpark.

'Reviews' section might sound like a good plan, but has anyone thought about the quality of the reviews that would be submitted?   What's the objective of the reviews too?

Good points there ::Xiphon::. Also, people tend to be rather rosey about things they have paid their own money for.

There is a plan afoot for an SDH solution to all that, but, as with anything SDH at the moment... its waiting...

Just what I was thinking - professional reviewers are often given/loaned a product to test it, then give it back.   If the reviewer slates the product, then tough s**t to the manufacturer.

If enough reviews say the same thing, then the manufacturer will either pull the product, or tweak it, and the review/testing phase starts again...

Read my post!

I did but what is the difference between one trail or another in relation to how a product works? I'd say it has absolutely no bearing at all (outside the obvious correct application of a component).

If someone wants to find something out they do a google search and will find something on STW, ridemonkey, DW, here, MTBR or some shonky spam on CRC. As per usual it's just another case of hitting a search button or even PM'ing someone reliable and asking their opinion.

I see what you're trying to get at but I personally don't see the need...

i like this idea and xiphon raises good points but many people dont like the parts they buy for certain reasons

maybe if they told us why they hate a product or why they love it and where and how hard they ride it then we would get a fairer picture of the product.

Also on forums you get a general idea of peoples attitudes and whether or not to bother respecting their opinions and amount of common sense which is more useful than scanning a load or random internet reviews.

most people know peoples attitudes on here anyway so would work, maybe if only full members + could   post on it and newbies e.t.c can read it as then people know people as they will have posted before, also stopping newbies ruining the thread

(not against newbies just an idea)
