Those MET Parachute helmets are a Fookin' bad design, if not fitted really right.
Out int' peaks a while back some kiddie had been wearing one, thinking he would be protected better than an XC lid, only to do a chin plant into the ground on some rocks pushing his helmet backwards and clean off the back of his head.
He was ok after a couple of minutes but understandably peeved to not be that well protected, his fault was not adjusting the chin strap tight enough.
You have been warned!

You're not really being a kill-joy, they really do suck a lot. What's the chin guard made from?

try riding an XC bike down fort william at the speeds of pro racers.....id feeel ALOT safer with a fulface, plus if every one rode with an american football helmet on, you get small stones and mud in your mouth witch isnt nice when trying to shread, and theyv redesigned the fullface in the name of the troy lee D2, or what ever it is, ok its more of a half face, but id rather where somthing that protects my chin and mouth then somthing that just coveres the tops of my ears and top skull.

reason for a full face is optimul protection, not aerodynamicness, or breathing ability, pro racers train with them on, therefor are used to not having as muxh "air" flow but still they can reach greaty speeds then a lycra wareing biatch. no offence. besides the faster u go the better the airflow thu a fullface, beleave it or not the small vents on a D2 actually do work, not amazingly well but i can feel it. prehaps think about buying a slightly bigger size?? and not somthing that squishes ur face.

but by all means where an XC lid down a free rider/dh track, iv seen one snap clean in half when some one bailed doing a 15ft drop/rollin.

but in the end its personal choice so dont slate it. i try not to slate the lycra wareing pussies.

Your type is the very worst that downhill has to offer. Not exactly an ambassador for the sport.

If you'd read the thread before contributing your non-opinion you'd see that this isn't about suggesting people wear cross country lids on downhill trails, or even wearing a Met Parachute type thing on a downhill trail, but about someone suggesting an about face re-design of top end lids to promote more ventilation at lower speeds without compromising protection at all

You'll also find that most of the lycra wearing pussies are fitter, stronger, tougher and faster than you. Probably slightly less bigoted too.

Speeds were topping 60kph yesterday on a flat stage of the tour de france wearing lycra and flimsy road lids in a tight bunch of 150 odd riders....lycra wearing pussies my arse.

Thats total BS they are fitter but never gonna be as tough  or fast ( in the riding sense) as a DH rider even top XC riders can't actually ride just pedal.

Agreed, The guys that ride the tour de france are pretty brave IMO. Anyone read Lance Armstrong's autobiography? He gives a brilliant impression of how dangerous the peleton can become, especially at speeds of 65-70kph+! (plus its a good read generally)

Bill, what are you smoking?!  Just because they can't get down a technical descent as fast as someone who specialises in it makes them less tough or slower?

What and absolute heap o' crap!

Most DH'ers wouldn't stand a hope in hell of being able to keep with a pelaton, does that make us weak and slow as well?

They're different worlds.

Hehe. I did see a guy wearing one once. Why would you do that?

Why?

I'm probably gonna get slated for this but I like my MET parachute.
However, I will differ to most people on this forum:
in that, I'm a total beginner, I'm only riding xc stuff at the moment, and I'm a girl.

As someone who crashes a lot, it gives me much more confidence to know that I'm not gonna have a huge scrape or scar down my face if I fall off onto a pile of rocks..
So far, the chin-guard has saved me from a few face-ground meetings so I'm pretty happy with its performance.

However, as I said, I'm not doing anything at all hardcore, and I wouldn't use it for anything like that. Because, as it has been pointed out, it's a little flimsy.
But, if you're doing xc and you're worried about mashing your face, I think it definitely has its place.
