just get a TLD open face and when you crash try to hit the back of your head

I have asthma and notice the stale air in my helmet but i just take of the helmet as soon as i finish my run.
If you were to take material away from the mouth guard, it will weaken, ive seen the front crack before and if even chipped my jaw/tooth through my old TLD.
Personally i dont like the open pictures you have posted, imagine the metal bars snapping into your face.
Oh and ive had plenty of roost/loam/mud fly into my chops with a full helmet and it doesnt taste good.
rocks and dirt thown up from the dirt bikes in front of you, damn dangerous
had huge bruises on my arms from roost when i used to race MTX

Wow this topic is even more pointless than half of mine.
First of all the title sounds like you just want to get roasted, you seem to be suffering from a very small problem only you seem to care about and actually suggest sacrifising strength and protection of a solid chin guard for a more bit flow, how fast do you actually ride? I know my TLD is a bit sweaty (mostly due to long hair) when i'm sat around after a run but as soon as i move the air flow is pretty damn good.
You are actually questioning very successful companies such as TLD and giro, who I'm sure didnt just get a motoX helmet and think 'ooh if we make this a bit lighter we can sell it to mountain bikers', because you don't ride fast enough?
If you don't like the ventilation of a full face, get a pisspot!
Full face helmets are designed to save your face and they do it damn well, so like may others on this site, those anoying little thoughts floating round your head, try to keep them there!
Well it's not like I'm podium fast, but fast enough. I don't ride a lot of dry dusty trail I suppose (this is the UK after all) and I rarely get a mouthful of anything, perhaps because I don't fall that much. I'd rather have some air...
You seem to think of DH as a one man sport, but a hell of a lot of DH riding isnt done as a competition but as a group of mates shredding some hills up together. Plus a caged front can get snagged on branched/rocks more easily.
Could just Train more so you can breathe better anyway? Could be quite a sensible thought, my old troy lee Mouth guard toook a massive smash and only cracked a little, i'd hate to have seen what my face would of been like with a less open design...

yeh i agree with you, this topic is pointless as this person is thinking for himself and not just happily accepting anything these companies are churning out. seriously, have you seen some of the topics on here (infact pretty much 95%), they are all about useless things like "steve peat does a skid", at least this topic is a bit thoughtful and is actually thinking outside of the usual realm of thought for a bit.
a would bet my life that the wire chin guard on that football lid weighs a damn sight more than the chin guard on any full face lid.. also I'm pretty sure for some of a run you wont be breathing (anaerobic respiration), and as somebody pointed out earlier, it keeps the dust and stones out of your mouth. ive certainly never had an issue with breathing my own stale air, except when going slowly (ie, pedalling up a hill)

don't want your shiny frame to be made worthless and unshiny by chain rub and other such evils? bike tape is your friend! www.biketape.co.uk - buy some now; your frame will love you for it.
i do agree full face helmets do not give you that much fresh air.............
but i was a bringewood a few days ago and i went straight over the handle bars and i hit the floor with the front of my head which if i wasnt for my full face then i would have no teeth
so now all we have to do is wait for a company to make a full face that protects you and gives you fresh air
Whenever I put on my DH helmet after riding in my XC gear, I feel like I'm suffocating because of the face guard. I'm breathing my own breath. It's hot and it's probably reducing the amount of oxygen I can get into my blood to power my muscles.
i dont think i've ever noticed that.
I have. I hate it.
I get it a lot and it angers me

To finish first, first you must finish! Its not the cough that carries you off, its the coffin they carry you off in!
I'd rather get a little bit warm inside my full face than be chewing on dirt or metal when I crash.
Did the mega last year in my TLD and didn't notice any problems with that choking lark! You'd think if there's one time you're gonna notice it, it'd be at 30degrees at altitude...s

Rootes
i'd agree there, its annoing the breathing thing, but i still wear them cause the absolute saftey they provide, over monstrosities like the met parachute

There mustn't be enough clearence between your face and the chin gaurd then mate.
I have a bell bellistic I've had since 05/06, and while the chin gaurd is closer than my old helmet, it's still far away enough to not affect me.
If it botehrs you so much, buy a motor cross helmet. The chain gaurd on my old crosser helmet was quite far from my face so never affected breathing.... but it proved safe enough when I had a crash once.
Chin gaurds do a hell of a lot.... I certainly prefer wearing one to a xc helmet or piss pot!
