Which camcorder for £350-400 ?..
« on: November 09, 2008, 12:18:04 PM »

As the title states, i am looking for a camcorder to film some higher quality bike videos, that will eventually end up on the internet. i wouldn't mind going second hand if i am getting a better camcorder.
i initally looked at the canon xm1, but didn't know much about mini dv, and the camera itself seemed a little too expensive. i don't really know what format i want either (hd, or not..) and i  like the idea of having a handle... Tongue if amybody could point me in the right direction it would be great !!

the XM 1 is very old and quite big

i wouldent buy second hand as you dont know the condition of tape heads ect. and there not HD, but do have good quality colour due to 3ccd

HV-30 is a good bet.. ment to be the best HD for a small camera. they are around 550 though so a bit over budget.

Keep to Sony, Canon and Panasonic with and video camera and you cant really go wrong!

weird advice 3ccd means naff all now.. hv30 is a cmos sensor.. so is the hv20... i really wouldnt consider anything else than a 2ndhand hv30 or 20 as they are consumer cameras and the heads wont be hammered.

wide angle lenses arnt fisheyes they are wide angle if you go down to 12 you will have noticable barrel distortion which is what ur thinking fish eye is, you can get lots of grips ect I'll post a pic of mine

Out of interest is it just resting upside down or do you film like that and rotate the footage?

the dof adaptor flips it so flipping the camera records the footage the correct way up

is there any chance you could post a link to a handle and a fish eye lens... that would be great !

Basically it isn't worth getting the xm1.. much better geting the hv30 (much point in getting the 30 over the 20 ?)

Thanks.

Do some research, it'd bode better for you rather than me posting links to everything.
