Sebas Romero
« on: July 14, 2008, 10:37:40 AM »

How many of you have seen his work? I just accidently stumbled across an interview with him on Descent-World. His stuff is pretty amazing, the colours and lighting are some of the best I have seen in mountain bike photography.

Ah I saw that interview on D-W.
And I agree. I thought the colors he was capturing were bloody amazing!
I'm going to have a good browse through that flickr now  Smiley

Also found out, he shoots using a Nikon D70 and Metz flashguns. An arguement to show how the lastest kit does nothing for your work?

Some good stuff there, but things like that are everyday stuff in BMX shots. I really do wonder why MTB photorgraphy isn't usually as creative as BMX.

I would it think it's easier to be more creative with BMX/street. Theres more stuff to use for your riding.
Whereas in DH the 'norm' is in a dark muddy forest so I guess its hard to get a shot comprising of all the colors and shapes that are in the urban areas.

Sorry but i totally disagree there... There's so much more to use with mountainbike photography than in an urban environment. But it's mainly the riding that influences the shots. Street style riding is a lot easier to photograph differently but mountain biking is hard to catch in a different form, most things mountain bikers ride look the same as any other mountain bike shot.

There's some really nice pics in that lot. The colours are awesome. A few of my favourites but its a pretty tough choice

He's done a lot of work for DMR, most of his shots are in their adverts.

I'm not going to deny that he's good. He really is.

But...

He was using pretty much the exact same lighting setup for every damn shot when I saw him, and indeed it appears that way across the board. That he was such an arrogant arse towards all the other photogs at Qashqai it was unreal.
