« on: July 15, 2008, 22:20:58 PM »

Hi,
I have yet another quick question for you all. I think you have realised that ive decided to replace broke/run down things on my bike tonight  Roll Eyes

Anyway
I Snapped my seatpost bolt a good month or so ago, And what with needing new tyres and pads along with trying to save up for a V10 in september i cant aford a new seatpost,

So i was wondering if this bolt would fit any seapost ?
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=14349
I mean it says thompson but its the same as the bolt i snapped so will it fit ?

For the record its just a cheapish bontrager seatpost  Cheesy

Thanks its apreciated  Smiley

Just go into a local bolt supplier and get one... Itt'l cost you a grand total of about 20p and will deffinately fit.

Thomson bolts have spherical heads, which you do not want. Take your old bolt to a good local hardware shop (you know, the kind of place that sells, umm, bolts) and ask the old chap behind the counter if he has a new one of the one you broke (hand him the broken bolt). When he asks if you would like a stronger, better quality bolt, say "yes". Pay your quid (20p buys a shite bolt, sorry) and thank the chap for his help.

See, life really is that simple! Smiley

but whats the point in spending a fiver on a bolt?!

You say your saving money, an extra £4 can't hurt in the savings instead of on a bolt...

To quote Thomson from their website:
Quote
Q - I lost my bolts, and I can't find any at the hardware store. Are they special? Where can I get some?
A - Our bolts have been specially designed to work with the Thomson seatpost.
First of all, there is a spherical radius under the head of the bolt, which allows the force to be evenly distributed across the bolt head, as the bolt swivels during seat adjustment. A standard bolt does not have this feature, and would be more likely to break. Our bolts are made of a high strength steel alloy, and go through and extra manufacturing process that increases their fatigue lives.
Finally, Thomson seatpost bolts are plated to prevent rust and corrosion. As you can see, bolts from the hardware store would be very poor replacements for Thomson bolts, and would cause failure and void the warranty. Contact your local bike shop for replacement bolts. The bike store may order bolts from our distributors. Only Thomson bolts may be used on Thomson seatposts.

Your Bonty post will not be designed to work with such bolts. It my well work, but I suspect not, so why risk it when a good hardware shp will have a normal bolt as per the spec of Bontrager.
