My friend got a £30 on the spot fine for doing a stair gap and was told if he was caught again his bike could be seized.

Sounds harsh, but when you think about it, any old woman could have gone to walk up the stairs and he coulud have plowed her down.

The policeman was just doing his job, 'protecting the public'

who was that? Roll Eyes

Police around here seem fine, infact my are boasts a large section of cycling police officers, which patrol local paths, trails and bridalways.

I spent a good half hour talking to one policewoman about downhilling, turns out a lot of them can really ride! (as her colleague practiced his bunnyhops in the background) She even said they were taught how to ride stairs etc.

At the end of the day, they are doing their job... cycling on pavements etc is illegal.

I have yet to meet a safe police man, or woman. In my oppinion the police deserve little respect because they give none to you as a member of the public and they are a pathetic excuse for law enforcement.

How many have you actually met?  Been on the right side of the law when meeting?

Most of the officers I've ever met have been nice, genuine people.  Your opinion not worth the font its written in.

 i agree again with rootes

just the other day a few of us built a jump up our industrial estate only 30min later community support roll on up, now the officer is known to be a bit of a b'tard but he was clearly trying his hardest not to make us destroy the jump and move on however as it was his job to do so, so he had to move us on yet did tell us to speak to the people which owned the plot we were riding on to see if we could get permission to ride.

tbh although its a pain in the arse sometimes, you have got to think : what if i didnt get moved, would i be in court for knocking someone over or if there was a break in there last night and you were last seen there youd be the oones getting the sh*t for it

I have met several, being on the right side of the law- they come across as exceptionally arrogant and usually give you a look like you are something that they have stepped in. On a few occasions I have been very polite to policemen and recieve the same egotistical response.

Perhaps you may have met one of these rare breeds of 'nice' policemen, or perhaps (more likely) you have a friend who is a policeman, but I haven't- hence the use of 'yet' in my initial comment.

As everyones said, you were in the wrong. And the fact that you had the cheek to do it when you knew he was there probably explains why he made a point of pulling you up.

All young people think the police are pricks, i was the same, but the fact is if youre polite to them then they are to you, it really is that simple. The only ones i've had a problem with are powertripping PCSO's who are sometimes a bit arrogant and try and boss you about. You just have to accept you're in the wrong and let them do their jobs, riding street has never been a well accepted sport by the general public, same with skating etc, but you can see why and if you can't then you've got problems.

biscuito you're right, I have a lot of friends in the service, my dad's a cop and a lot of our family friends are as well...

You get wankers in every profession but in general, most Police will do their best to help you out unless you don't deserve it.  To be honest, I can't say I've ever had a confrontation with a police officer.

To say they're a poor excuse for law enforcement is an absolute heap of crap.  They're doing their best in a bureaucratic society with a government and media who seem intent on bringing them down.

Admittedly they are definately restricted by the governement and media, which doesn't help them carry out their job (the paperwork especially I imagine is something to do with it), but some of them don't appear to have the common sense to let a petty issue slide and focus on more important issues within our society- you may be right in that there are some nice policemen- perhaps I keep meeting these 'wankers' you speak of (just unlucky I suppose).

If I offended anyone with the use of the word 'pathetic'- it may have been a little harsh and I am sorry. My justification for using this word was perhaps a little blinkered; I was thinking of the fitness requirements for the police force's new recruits when I wrote the post- you have to achieve 5.4 on the bleep test. Those of you who don't know what this means it is the average fitness of a 9 year old child- which I find slightly worrying as we entrust our safety in these people.

I will ride on the pavement in some places as there have been a number of accidents involving bikes on the road so sod the law £30 is better than a ride in an ambulance! thats if they can catch you, no number plate so just do one downs some alleys lol

In short no, they are simply doing their job, but I can see why you feel that way, it's just that what you were doing was wrong. Recently a 17 year old girl was ploughed down and killed by a 'man on a highly expensive mountainbike' as it said on the news. They are bound to worry about thes types of things.

As Rootes said you get wankers in any profession. I have met some dickhead coppers but I have also met some very nice ones. Often trying to persuade us to gently move on rather than kicking off. At the end of the day they are given a brief and they are carrying that out. And no I don't know any coppers, well actually my old uncle (aunt divorced him) was a copper and a w*nk*r but I won't tar them all with the same brush.

It like when I was out on my birthday the other night, I got IDed at one place and I was a bit annoyed to be honest, but then I remembered that I was infact 17 and he was doing his job.
