its plausible, and ive done it on other bolts before but i highly doubt itll work with the amount of force going through it (enough to twist my 8mm allen if you read above), and say i used a flathead screwdriver i would have no leverage on it.

Yeah, with it being stuck that tight, the only way you will be able to remove the cranks is to destroy the bolt.

I suggest drilling right through the bolt, using increasingly bigger drill bits until you reach a size not far from the thread in the axle. It should disintegrate with that much material removed.

Hammer a socket on to the bolt and get a long ratchet or as [DHO] said an impact driver.

ive tried an impact driver once, but it was really old and i was unsure about its functionality. I guess ill treat myself to a new one as the old one didnt budge it.

EDIT- only problem is the crankbolt hole is rounded now, so even if i get a new impact driver with an 8mm bit it will most likely slip. do you think i could hammer a 9mm bit in?

Impact wrench, and if that doesnt work (probably due to the state of the bolt), crank out the good old welder and weld the allen key to it... the heat will probably free it up anyway!

Tap a socket onto the outside of the bolt. you follow?

no because the bolt is situated insde the arm of the crank, and it requires the use of an 8mm allen key, not a socket. heres a picture of the bolt.

as you can see, socket no worky Smiley

Those easyouts are w*nk. If you snap one, which is quite likely, you'll striggle like a c**t to drill it (they are made of proper hig tensile, heat treated, strong as f**k metal)

Go buy a proper, Named, 8mm allen key (snap on, mac etc) and it wont round. Even if it does, its covered under lifetime warranty.

If I was you, id go to my local garage and get them to buzz it out with a 3/8 air gun.

Cover the end of the bolt in WD40 and get some WD40 down the other side onto the threads on the inside and try from there.

You'll probably struggle to hammer a 9mm allen key in there - but you could try hammering in a Torx (the pointy star shape means they hammer in pretty well and get wedged nice and tight). Then get a local garage to buzz it with the hammer gun.

if we have anything we cant get out of a thread in the shop we get the garage round the corner to weld "something" to it ...and the heat of the weld usually means it comes off easy ....but it has to be verrrrryy stuck ....im a wielder of the three foot long adjustable spanner ... cost 100 quid but makes light work of any stuck bb ! and weighs a tonne !
