Selective colour

I have photoshop installed onto my mac but have no ide how to edit the photo like this: http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/2272617/

could someone please tell me how?

I would do it by reducing the saturation on the whole photo, then using the sponge tool to saturate selected areas. No idea if there's a better way though.

Select all the bits that you want to keep colourd, go to ;
Layer>new layer>new layer via copy

go onto the background layer, go to the adjust saturration, and take the saturation all the way down.

Thats got to be the easiest way to do it.

Exactly! Its quicker then the way Ali. said and this way you keep the exact same colour instead of a slightly different one with the sponge tool.

less stressful way: layer mask -  duplicate layer>layer mask>destaurate>select brush and spray away.as long as you have selected the masked layer (layers palette and its white) and your brush is black you will start to mask the top layer leaving the bottom layer showing through, get it wrong and inverse you brush to white and spray your mistake back to how it was, and correct, if you zoom right in you get it supurbly accurate. adjust brush to suite.

quickest way.

new layer - set to colour
fill new layer with black or white
use select tool / erazor to get away the desaturated bits to reveil colour.
