hence why i said only do this if your in a situation where they persistently fall off, and i will be honest and say that was appalongly worded, if youve got the proper petal cap, theres no need to torque em like mad, just do them as you would would, and the threads wont fall off like on the nylon preload cap, meaning the crank stays on!

The preload cap is not their to hold the crank on. The pinch bolts are there to do that. If you find your cranks falling off then I suggest you have issues you need to deal with (like proper fitting or a damaged crank).

Well, my dad's a car mechanic. So he has all the tools i'll ever need and the common sense to match. So with regards to them being fitted correctly, i shouldn't have many problems.

Found the 2008 Saints Singles on CRC for £114.99, thanks to THE_Unique_One. And shall order them tonight. The one i was looking at mistakenly was the double. Will also most likely order the bashguard to match. A white e-13, may not be the best. But its 25pounds. Can't complain and it works.

Thanks for all your opinions and help, i'll let you know how i get on.

nice choice mate, i went from truvativ holzfellers to saints about 4 months ago. theyre so much better (imo) and i reccomend them to anyone whos looking for strong cranks. im running mine with a 36t chainring and a e13 bash so compatability is all good there. good luck getting them all sorted.

the tools needed are bike specific though and wont be found anywhere near a car. does he have a facing tool, HTII bb tool and a saint end cap tool?

Well, it has the same hollowtech 2 internals as my old hones. And my parktool  bb tool removed that. The frame is an ex demo one, so it's been faced already. And by that comment, i meant it as in. It won't be a bodge job as my dad has the patience and know how to not rush anything mechanical. Another quick question - will a 32tooth bash fit a 34tooth chainring? been told it would be a squeeze. And as e-13 dont do the bash in 34,only 32 and 36. I asked around and found that out.
