list me up boys**bikes selected in 1st post**
« on: July 22, 2008, 00:00:26 AM »

ok looking in at long term investment of a freeride bike now

basicaly i want a 6-7-8 inch (either or variation of the lot) that will work nice with fox forks (36's pref) but i may get 40's

can be 1 1/8th or 1.5 headtube
needs to be avaliable in medium
needs to have coil and not air shock
can be any spacing of rear wheel
needs to be ISCG plate
needs to NOT be a kona
needs to be unique

i have looked in at the likes of orange, specialized, giant, GT, appalanche, Beone, avent, intense, ironhorse, kona, santa cruz, sunline, ...... and other top line makers

just wanted to see what other smaller companies and others i havent heard of or looked into are out there

EDIT:
bikes that i have decided as final options:
demo 7 £1200
corsair Maelstrom £1450 and avaliable in october
nicolai UFO or Helius ST
Nox Flux HC 8.0
Canfield Formula 1 Jedi
versus trigger
Devinci ollie

More maybe added

cheers
paul

considered the corsair maelstrom?

180mm rear travel

would be extremely unique, i've certainly never seen one before, and definetly look the part! although they'd be quite hard to get your mits on i imagine?

if you read the whole post its pretty clear ....

if you buy a niche frame and say for example you f**k up some of the hardware for some reason ...or a rocker plate or even something as simple as a mech hanger ...could be some very expensive one off machining ...

buying something bulk produced tried and tested is sometimes a good idea ...

just picking up on your desire for uniqueness....

just after reading a few recent threads on here ....

craftworks and keewee being 2 such companies

As food for thought, how about the Ellsworth Rogue? You can spec them with either 6,7 or 8" travel and a DHX coil, they have OLD ISCG mounts, 135x12 rear ends, super light, have been built up with Fox 36s no problem and have a 2 year warranty. They are absolutely beautiful up close. I would've bought one myself, but having an ID already, I'd have 2 bikes that look near enough the same, albeit with different uses.
Excuse the blurry photo, but you should get the idea of the strength of these...

the best way to describe what a niche market is..

Bike dvd's for example, theres a market for them, but its very small, and only a small number of people want them. same goes for all this unique frames, its a very niche market as the riders are looking specifically for that kind of frame and there arent too many riders looking...

If that makes sense Cheesy

it's not as simple as you think to just go down there and get some done, and you'd walk out with a bill well over a grand...

Nicolai UFO ST.

I think this was/is -C-'s off the forums. Not sure.

Also, lots of spangly colours. Would definately be unique. Can also get custom decals, my mates is matte black and he was going to have pink decals but went for silver. Sexy.

Dont see many of them knocking about. Very versitile. Fits the bill nicely.
