Well it's time for a new stem.
What I'm having trouble deciding wether to go for direct mount or a low stack standard stem.

My steerer is short so I need a low stack if it's not direct mount.

Suggestions?

Direct mount means you're more likely to bend your forks (even if the crown bolts are loose) but are stiffer and lower but not THAT much lighter

Try a lower stack headset and a normal stem

i'd go for a low stack stem over direct mount, less likely to damage things in a crash.

IIRC 40s use the same mount as a Boxxer.

i have always used direct mount on tripple clampp forks (except for my brief diabolus stage), i prefer them, it just makes setting up that bit easier. and they feel noticably stiffer.

for boxxers i have used a large range from:
syncros
funn
sunline
chromag
betd's own
blackbox proto

i dont recommend the betds or the chromag.
the funn are good (if abit common) but the syncros are acei sold mine a while back and regret it. but i have the blackbox proto one now which so far is very nice indeed, i say buy one when they become available.
