HELP new bike/frame
« on: July 25, 2008, 15:13:06 PM »

hi everyone,
im running a 2007 big hit 1 with super t's on it, but it's extremely heavy for me and i think a size too small for me lol. so i think its time for a change..i've been looking around and talking to alot of people and i have a few choices so i need alot of help because im really stuck!!

im around 5"8 and weigh about 80kg (so looking for either 14" or 16" frame)
i ride a mixture of drops (7/8ft max), dh style trails, freeride stuff(jumps/step ups/step downs etc), allmountain trails and probs commuting so i'd want something light but very strong and versitile..

so..i could buy an 05 sx trail frame n forks for 450 and build it up as my trail machine but it still has a bit too much travel for most of whats near me.

i could also get a second hand orange 5 and have that as my trail machine to rip around etc, as well as the sx trail or a patriot for the bigger stuff and loose my big hit..

or just have an orange patriot set up with lyrics etc so i cud use that for trail razzzing and for the bigger stuff if i go to morzine, whistler etc

probs need to buy second hand, but only up to 06 models, as im abit short on cash:)

Any suggestions are much appriciated as im absolutely stuck...

Thanks
Sergi

i think you may have hit the nail on the head with the patriot
Probablly a better choice than the 5 if you want to send a few drops too, shouldnt be too heavy for general use or the commute either.

The older sx trails were prone to rear ends cracking, 2005 ones in particular before they started beefing them up, With alu fatigueing over time the rear ends on them are probablly only getting weaker,

at 5'8" i wouldn't go as low as 14" I'M 5'7" and get on perfectly with an 18" downhill bike.

you may even find 16" abit small
