Fort William Rumour...Probably False...
« on: August 03, 2008, 20:07:41 PM »

Ive jst read this on some web page...

that's right Fort William is getting a new track.A new Downhill track is going to be made, while looking up the hill it will be on the right hand side of the mountain. It will be graded red therefore easier than the current world championship track.
The new track should be ready to ride mid May 09

Does Anyone knw if this is true?Huh

Sounds an allright idea to me but could jst be speculation

It will make it more popular for the average rider if they do that.

Seems like a perfectly good idea to me

yer one of gondola staff talked to me about it when i was up there, its basically so they get more interest from the lower ability riders, and so they dont break themselves on the worlds course

Will suit people like a bloke i saw there the other weekend. His English was quite poor but I'm pretty sure he was trying to tell me it was the first time he'd ridden a mountain bike. Watching him gave me that impression as well it was quite entertaining. But then again it was me with the swollen hand that couldn't ride not him Tongue

was speaking to one of the guys whos works there, does maintenance, and is helping build the new track.
its going to be a red run, starts further up the hill, near the bottom of the open air chair lift which takes you right to the top. it will be an even longer track and will end up finishing in the same place as the main one. will obviously be alot easier and less knarly and will involve alot of board walks.
you can see where theyve started preparing alot of woodwork for the boardwalks near the top, but it probably wont be open until next season now.

does that mean that the black run will be made a little harder as it doesn't have to cater for everyone, just the people who know how to ride it properly

i very much doubt it, it gets harder every year anyway just through wear and tear...
i wouldnt say its the most easy coure at the moment anyway, if the pro's find it one of the most demanding tracks in the world i expect most people wont be wanting it any harder...

Quite old news really but basically it will be a red route and I believe its going to set off from near the current one.

They have been talking about it for a year and building was supposed to start early this year from memory but got delayed a few times.
