Ok this will sound super stupid but..

I have a Nikon D40 and I cant shoot at night, its that simple. Some nice advice on shooting landscapes etc at night.

Sorry for the stupidity.

Cameras need light, there isn't much at night.  Wink

Long Exposure.
You need something to rest the camera on something, ideally a tripod, so it doesn't move, then set your shutter speed to a couple of seconds or more depending on how dark it is.
You could also increase the ISO as that will increase the brightness, but you'll get more noise (speckles) in your pictures.

If you can't see where you're walking it's probably a bit late.

If it is to dark at night to shoot and the camera cant focus take a torch, pre focus on the subject and the put it onto manual focus. If it is that dark have a good sturdy tripod or brick wall for your camera and dont be afraid of having an exposure of 2,3 or more minutes on bulb also a good way to get star trails. Hope this helps

Thanks a lot guys, hopefully ill put some pics up. I'm in texas and the house im staying in is at the top of a huge hill and it has a garden with a pool that hangs on a huge balcony type thing over the cliff edge. It looks out over austin city and the lights etc look beautiful.

Thanks again guys
