Forum bike for Stephen Murray Fund
« on: August 10, 2008, 10:24:28 AM »

I was talking with a mate yesterday about building a bike out of spares that just will not get used,we ended up going on about getting loads of people together to build one by passing it around and people adding bits then passing it on again, being a member of this ere forum some time now i thought it would be a good place to start.
The idea so far is that i start it off with an old Specialised P1 frame that i have and whatever else i can find to fit on it,then someone localish to me takes it,adds some stuff then passes it on again and so on and so forth taking pics at every change, once its complete it can then be put into some sort of raffle with the money earned going to the Stephen Murray family fund, thats if one of the mods dont mind being the treasurer.
Anyway just an idea, what do you all think?

Maybe this will help those that are thinking otherwise, wasnt sure weather to put this up or not!

Thinking something along the line of www.justgiving.com,then all the cash can go straight to the fund and someone will walk away with a half tidy bike for a fiver.

Good idea in theory, and a good cause, but its a bit of a faff on sending a whole bike around adding parts to it, wouldnt take a massive amount of time to get a whole bike built.

Make more sense for people to send parts in to one person, then that person builds it up and takes photos as it gets built up.

Not really for instance if i were to put the bits on that i have then put out a post on here to say that ill be taking it to my local (Cwmcarn) and whoevers there takes it,no need to be posted around, make it travel like we do.As for building it up really quickly lets just have everyone add one thing.

i reckon sending items to one person would be better aswell. the person building makes a list of things needed, and people can send what they have?

Thats why i thought about putting the idea on here as 99% of the users are not dickheads and would realise its for a good cause, plus theres 12,000 odd members that will hunt them down and kill them if they did steal it.

the whole idea was to give it to the stephen murray fund and give the money to someone who is not only one of the srongest people who many people on this forum and other forums have alot of respect for but was also a awsome rider, not to some countrys over seas. not saying no one give money to oxfam or anything but you know what i meen

Why should we give money to Stephen Murray and not people in Africa, who might be starving/dying of AIDS etc.?

whay should we give money to people in Africa and not stephen murry who is suffering of paralysis? the point (i'm guessing was) get bikers to colect money for another biker.
