Couldn't you give the money to Oxfam instead?

the whole idea was to give it to the stephen murray fund and give the money to someone who is not only one of the srongest people who many people on this forum and other forums have alot of respect for but was also a awsome rider, not to some countrys over seas. not saying no one give money to oxfam or anything but you know what i meen

Paul

Why should we give money to Stephen Murray and not people in Africa, who might be starving/dying of AIDS etc.?
No one is saying we shouldn't give money to third world countries etc.
This is a bike forum Hence why dan has came up with this idea to help Stephen Murray.
And sounds a great idea dan.

The point is millions of people give to the likes of Childline,Oxfam, etc, etc,if you do a bit of research you will find out a bit about Stephen, the guy IS a massive influence on so many people and has been dealt a massive blow and doesnt get any help government wise unlike sports stars in big name sports, its not as if were talking thousands of pounds here plus i think it may bring the old MTB vs BMX thing together as cyclists. If you dissagree with the idea and you think it should go to another cause then get your fiver out and give it to Oxfam or whatever,if this thread turns into the same old childish piss take thread as many do ill pull the idea all together and do it among others who understand the cause a bit better.Rant over,do we continue?

It doesnt matter which charity you give to you can always say, oh you could give it to X charity.

if you read my post properly i said  not saying on one give money to oxfam ie if you want to give money to oxfam you can but as said in later posts he is a influence on the sport if you want to donate money to charitie instead of this fund feel free good on you for doing that but ide rather give money to te stephen muray fund because after 11 years at catholic shcools i must have given loads of money to charities like oxfam ect.  Smiley

So whats the plan? the bike going round the country or is one person keeping it? would make it alot easier to do in the long run, atleast then one person has everything and can update as they get parts sent to them  Smiley

Well id like it to go from person to person but if the general feel is that i build it up myself from parts sent to me then thats what we  will do either way the main aim is to get this done as a forum to put a bit back into the riding scene,if sending me the parts is the easiest way then feel free to PM me with whatever you have to offer.

Look im not being funny but i just want to get this thing done,im just trying to put an idea into reality,ok i see your point but if that was the case id be trying to help out the likes of everyone that has had a life changing accident, lets concentrate on the chosen charity at the moment,if all goes well and lots of people get involved then i cant see why it cant be done again, like you said there are a lot of people on this forum with lots of spare parts, lets get one thing complete before we start another.
No more comments on who should benefit from this would be a start, constructive comments only would be appreciated at the moment.

Just a thought, but add the fund to EBay's charity listing and sell on ebay with money to that charity? http://pages.ebay.co.uk/ebayforcharity/sell.html We can list those charity auctions up here on SDH.

A mate told me about this  http://www.justgiving.com/  today looks like a good way to do it to me plus all the people that donate are listed and the money will go direct, cant do much at the moment though as my wifes in hospital but i will check back as often as i can.

Looks as though we will go down the route of me building the bike so if you have any parts youd like to donate then let me know and we can get the ball rolling.
                  Dan

Ihave emailed the Stephen Murray Fund to see if they have any ideas for the payment options,as soon as i get a reply ill post it up.
