A Karma suggestion
« on: August 19, 2008, 12:06:53 PM »

I recently received some negative karma - not the be-all-and-end-all. But wouldn't it be useful for members to know what exactly they've done wrong so that in the future they can avoid it?

Looking back over my recent posts there's nothing being said against anyone, no spam or rubbish so I'm a bit confused.

As mentioned, not the most important thing in life but I must have done something to upset someone!

So I take it you disagree with my suggestion then Pete?

Hardly a moan now was it? Merely a request for information. I only wanted to know what I'd done, so in future I could make an effort not to do it again. (If indeed I had done anything, or as I suspect I've just had a different opinion to one of the forum big boys Wink)

When we had the ability to see where and who (you cant have one without he other) karma was awarded, people bitched at each other so we removed it.

Not people are bitching they cant see... no way to win is there. How about we remove karma?

Cheers for that Al, seems like a fair enough reason for the way it is.

Seems like a good idea to me.

It's caused quite alot of arguments in it's self even though it was supposed to hush people Undecided

I think it adds a very negative feel to a very positive forum.

Karma is shrouded by anonymity, people are overly keen to give negative but never positive, a real shame.

It seems like on the whole the karma system can be a good indication of a forum member’s reliability and general attitude, or so I thought. It’s also become apparent that negative karma can be distributed at will by more established members seemingly having a bad day – as I’ve witnessed.

I often use karma (rightly or wrongly) in the classified section, often to judge the credentials of a potential buyer. Anyone with excessively negative karma I’m a little cautious of.

I do agree however that being able to see what karma is given/taken for would cause more arguments than could be dealt with.

thats abit harsh though, as i have quite alot of negatuive karma and ask anyone who has bought stuff off me, they get the item next day no questions asked (otherwise i will let them know if they wont get it next day as soon as they pay).

i'm a reliable seller/buyer with quite abit of neg karma (doesn't reflect much really)

Good point, and now I know the negative karma you've got is most probably only due to the fact that you've disagreed with someone!  Tongue

At the end of the day it's not going to stop me doing business with anyone on the forum, but by the very nature of the karma system, it's designed to tell you about a person without even talking to them.

Ignore Karma.

No-one cares that much. It just causes pointless arguements.

Obviously some are given for proper reasons though.

But yeh. Get rid of Karma please

He only did it because he knew it would upset him more, fair enough tbh.

tbh nobody even cares about karma, post count, etc etc. Just don't spout crap and ignore it.

Err, no. From looking at the log I can see thats not why. I'd tell you why I think, but you'd be offended.
