Anybody ride a morewood izimu?
« on: August 20, 2008, 17:33:48 PM »

I'm looking at possibly getting one of these frames in a couple of months so I want to get a few decent opinions of people who own them or have experience with the izimu. I've done a search and theres a few bits and pieces but I really want to know how they ride, in terms of braking, pedalling, tracking etc. And also how reliable the pivot setup is and availability of spares. All opinions welcome cheers!

I too am considering getting an Izimu come the end of the year.

You could drop the DerryAir Cycles team an e-mail, as they all ride them. And I'm sure they'd give you an honest insight into them.

any excuse......  Grin

Love it but then most people do with their own bikes... add me on msn if you want a convo about it.  I think there was an older thread on here where i answered a load of the same questions so i'll try to find that.

only bit i can't answer is spares ref the pivots... they've not worn out on me yet!  Should be easy enough to get hold of though.

Awesome bikes.

First time I rode one I was stunned by how well it tracks the ground, yet its also light and great to jump.  makes it so much fun to ride..

Geo is great, adjustable via front shock mount, though I've never felt the need to meddle with it.  Pedals well, I don't use any pro pedal and don't notice any bob.

If your at the last pearce round, come over to the Derryair ez up and have a chat with the team.  Or if your ever up chicky/woburn drop us a line and I'll happily bring it out to play.

Cheers guys for the posts, everythings sounding very positive which is great!

One thing i've read recently is that in the slackest shock mount position, the rear tyre rubs the seat tube on bottom out. Just wondering if anybody can confirm this on the 2008 izumi frame, i guess its possible that what i read relates to previous models. Thanks!

I was considering one but then saw one break in two at the Mega (one end went one way and the other went the other, quite spectacular), anyone know if this is a common problem or a one off / nutter riding it?

I'd imagine it be fairly like an orange pedalling/braking/etc wise, just different angles, lengths etc,

From what I've heard although looking similair they actually ride very different.

Everyone I've spoken to on the trails with them always seems to comment on how well they track the floor compared to Oranges.....and I mean everyone.

Never ridden one though so that is second hand opinions I'm giving you.

Right, i've failed to turn up the other thread i was on about though if you use the search button there are a fair few others.

As mentioned above they do seem to track the floor very well but don't seem to get bogged down in stuff with over active suspension.  I can still skip over the top of rock gardens etc.

When i first got mine running a manitou 6-way it seriously liked to get airborne off everything, i've now shimstacked the 6-way which has made the suspension more supple and active with a little less pop off things.  It still jumps very well though and is nice and balanced and controllable in the air.

With the shock being quite high up i definitely noticed the difference in handling putting a Ti spring on which brings the center of gravity down a bit.

With the setup i'm running mine is around the 38/39lbs mark.  (i measured it at 38.?? when it was running hones but i've changed bars stem cranks and saddle since then)

It corners really well but i'm not good enough to get the most out of it.  As mentioned before about it tracking through rocks i'm not the best of riders but i can consistantly hit the same line (within an inch) through gethin rock garden so it can't be bad at all.

I'm not sure if the floating brake arm on mine makes a difference as i've not ridden it without.  I'll order some new drop-outs at some point and try it.  The spherical bearings on the brake arm do wear so it starts to rattle a bit but that's inevitable.

As far as i'm aware mine's on it's origional bearings in the pivots but they're a standard size so will be cheap and easy to replace when the time comes.

as for reliability, i had 2 days notice i was going to the mega and only got the bike out the shed the day before and it was fine the whole time i was out there with no mechanicals.

As you can tell I'm pretty happy with mine, I'm trying to think of any negatives but it does what it says on the tin really.  If you're after a single pivot frame then it's highly recommended.  As for the single pivot vs vpp/maestro/dw arguments, there's a million threads on different forums with that argument for you to make your mind up.
