« on: August 25, 2008, 17:11:33 PM »

you've probably heard this about a million times from other people before but here goes:

im looking to make my bike as quiet as i can get it, ive already done the obvious thing by getting a chain slap guard (innertube Tongue) - the bike is a giant glory DH

if anyone has any other suggestions then id love to hear it, cheers

Danny

What is noisy first? that may make it a bit easier.
For some reason my bike is pretty silent nowadays, apart from when something is broken.

Try a it of WD40 here and there. Tighten the mech up a bit, fit some new bearings etc

Is your chain tight enough? and do you have a chain device?
They should help

get a picture of the bike up first.

but, main noises come from chainguides, freehubs engaging during compression and mech slap.

running sram will prevent a lot of noise coming from the bike, as will running an e-13 if you use the stock giant chain device.

Velcro on seat stay. Velcro where gear cable outer and brake hose will hit tubes. Apparently motofoam (if cut well) can fit the shock thingy instead of the OEM pro-tect-orr.

Plus you get the added bonus of being as cool as Sam Hill and it will make you go faster....

it'll be the chain that twangs the most probably, cos you've got a large cassette the chain is reall slack when in the lower gears so maybe get a tighter roadie cassette and use some velcro/lizard skin/innertube on the chain stay cos thats where most of the sound comes from. oh and i started with moto foam all over my bike and its not really worth it cos the mud and stones just sit on top of the foam, which is annoying when on the pedals Wink
