Well I went for the 42a. Going to see how it feels and that way I can choose nxt time whether to plump for 60a or 42a.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

42a front / 60a rear

works great, and harder compound rear provides more "bite" for hard braking and accelerating, and doesn't disappear in a couple of weeks like i've found when running 42a on rear

Defo! wish i did that for Whistler..got through a most of a 42a on the rear in just a day! You could probably even get away with a Slow Reezay on the front.  My rear 42a's tend to last about 6months of uk weekend riding on average

You're one step from the wrong end of a bad day...

Only superior non-race combo is a 42a/50a. If you can get it.

Sorry but how the hell did you manage to get through a 42a in a day?! Are you just skidding down everything? I've done god knows how many uplift days at Inners and Hamsterley and 3 days riding at Fort Bill on a 40a Minnion that still looks fine!

Super Tacky all the way...unless you're in the Alps. I set a new personal best of 9 days from new to bald on my Minion. I sometimes find ST's get whole knobs ripped off on the edges, and big cuts everywhere, so bear that in mind.

I'd say for the UK, especially when it's wet that ST's are the best choice.

what do we rekon for wetscreams?  Got 42a on front but unsure about supertacky on the back purely as I have to ride 6 miles each way to get to my local... However unsure how grippy they will be in maxxpro?

You shouldn't be using a wetscream for anything but the very deepest nastiest muddiest trails. They're a hinderance anywhere else.

Wetscreams work well on grass, but they wear very quickly.

Whistler in the dry is like riding on sand paper, you can't compare any of those courses to it

I would say Whistler in the wet is even worse, because you are braking more to avoid over cooking it on slippery trails, at least in the dry you can go stupidly quick once you learn the trails

I went through a brand new WTB soft compound rear tire in 3 days in Whistler during a very wet vacation there, and at $110 per tire not so happy

and of course, there are few other places where every run down is nearly 3,000 vertical feet and you can do 20 runs+ a day

Minnions are pretty bald to start with  Wink

Different folk seem to have different opinions on whats a worn tyre. To me a 40/42 highroller loses its edges after a couple of runs...its not done, but its not good. A 60 loses the sharp edge much later.
For me a 42 on the rear lasts a day or two at ft bill/dry inners uplift untill i dont wanna use it any more. A 60 will last much longer.

My last 60 lasted 3 months general riding plus 1 x ft bill uplift, ft bill SDA, Aberfeldy SDA, 1 x inners uplift day, 2 weeks in france (halfway through france it was at a point where the center tread would wear no more, the edge tread was ripped to pieces and the side walls had thread coming out!).

42, great if your an elite/top level expert and/or have the cash to splash, but unnecessary for most folk.

42 all the way on the front though!
