i was only spectating and taking photos, but i regret selling my bike. i would of loved to take part in that event. while walking round it was obvious some of the marshalls had no idea what to do. when part of the course was been edited. the marshall in front was busy with his mate instead of holding a flag up to warn oncomming riders.

DEFFO DOING IT NEXT YEAR EVEN IF I HAVE TO BUY A BIKE.

Hey guys im the one responsible for all the wooden structures. Im sorry a few of you didnt like the truck back but originally it was intended as a proline with a step on step off with a chicken run around the outside. The ramps for the front of the trailor were a last mimuet build due to the high winds and not being able to go with the original plan. We have been upagainst the elements with the build all week and it really slowed us down. The hold up with having to felt everything was a bit of a problem as we really didnt think it would get that slippy, we knew it would rain but we didnt realise it was going to pick the sea up and dump it on us.
Anyway from the riders i spoke to on the day they had a really good time and loved the track. What you have to realize is not everyone is going to like what they come across on a dh track but the idea is to find a way of dealing with it surley. A jump you hate hitting will be loved by loads of others and so on. When we had to change it  the truck back wasent actually ment as a jump it was to roll and if it wasent there the track would have been kinda boring dont you think.
Anyway cheers for all coming and i hope you did enjoy yourselfs.

I really liked the track and all the wooden structures - my only gripe is with seroius lack of info given to riders for delays, especially when thre was so many of us stood in thwe wind a rain without a clue what was going on

Everyone's complaining about "communication issues".  I'm not saying there weren't issues, but am I alone in not giving a feck?  95% of the time I spent at the top I was sat in the warm and dry chatting to other riders, didn't seem a great hardship to me - in fact sitting around talking shite is one of the things I like best about downhill races Wink

Gotta agree well done Chris your never gonna make us all happy but these things do depend a lot on the weather behaving itself.
If your looking for a similar venue in the future try Richmond in N.Yorks its got a castle, some hellish steep steps, little tight twisty back alleys and loads of really steep tarmac down to a brilliant arena finish in a park by the waterfall.

Oh and I'm sure Scarborough won't want to host such an event again.  What with all the abuse the English Heritage guys got, the mess that was made by allowing us on the grass by the first hairpin, and the mess that the main (grass, now mud) spectator strip must've been once everyone cleared off.... I'd like to see the results, but I presume Chris is still clearing it all up!

Just want to reiterate what folks have said, please please don't let this weekend put you off holding an event next year! I still had a good weekend despite the problems, and Edinburgh was amazing and just goes to show how good an urban race can be when the weather goes our way!

Definately doing the next urban night race!!!

The day was great, if the weather was good would have been better but never mind, i had so much fun and it is nobodies fault that the race was cancelled, just bad luck.

Was up at 5am on saturday morning for the drive and picking up my mates and stuff, riding all day obviously and then Got into town about 11.15pm and didnt get back to the Bed and Breakfast until about 5.15am haha... we then had about 3 hours sleep and woke up still absoluly smashed, wasnt a good feeling...

We had to sober up before the drive back so walked around scarbrough for a little while, i got my hangover at about 6pm last night so cant of been fit to drive but oh well....  Roll Eyes hehe

Was such a good weekend, thanks to all the FAT FACE team for organsing the race and thanks to everyone else supporting (**Special thanks to jagermeister**) Grin Wink

Edit....  It was me and my mates with the Air horn  Grin Grin

I am guessin it has been said already, but my opinion has to be;

The best race i have ever been to. The atmosphere was brilliant, regardless of the weather there must have been spectators nearing the thousands throughout the day, and the track was so much fun.

Only wee dig is the few glitches but hey, that cant be helped, was pretty tough goin!

Good work and thanks a lot to all the organisers and suport, great commentry from Si and the guys on the monster tent 1/2 way down!

Im in for the next one no doubt!!

Cheers

Found some results, not much though:

Quote
New Fat Face Night Ride Champion is Crowned!
It was Dan Stanbridge who took the Fat Face Night Ride 2008 Crown after Saturday's event in Scarborough, clocking up the fastest time of the day with 1:12.630.

Driving rain and gale force winds eventually called for an early close to the event but not before 300 mountain bike riders put on a phenomenal spectacle.

Second place went to James Hughes, riding for Solid Bikes with 1:12.876 and third to Bike Radar's Neil Donohue in 1:13.194. The women's crown went to Tracy Moseley with a time of 1:22.363; Helen Gaskell riding for Halford's Bike Hut took second with 1:22.694 and Giant's Katy Curd in third with the time of 1:24.966.

Clutching his (soggy!) giant Fat Face cheque for £500, an ecstatic Dan, riding for Mojo/ Orange, commented: "Fat Face have done a great job. The course was really good and it was great to see so many people here." Describing his ride in the horrendous weather conditions, Dan explained: "when the conditions are tricky there's always a compromise between going downhill as fast as you can and getting down in one piece."

There was no doubt that the course was hard, fast and as challenging as it could have been. Starting from Scarborough Castle, the riders first had to contend with 100 metre of ancient cobble stones before attacking the 50 metre stretch of twisting steps.

In front of an ever-growing crowd, they then had to launch onto a 12ft high wooden tabletop, with pedestrian underpass, followed by a chicane to get them to the next jump, this time over an articulated lorry. Upon landing on the lorry, a feat in itself, given the ever worsening conditions, they then had to get themselves off the vehicle before peddling as fast as they could, building up speed before shooting up an off road section, via a sharp angled booter.

The riders then hit a set of double hairpins before joining the tarmac again and building up speed for the last set of steps and the final show stopping jump over a scaffold structure. This brought them straight out onto Scarborough's historic seafront and another assembled crowd, willing them on as they tackled the 13 foot drop.

Nearly there! They just had to get around the roundabout and the finish line before finally getting the opportunity to get their breath back and take stock!

Run in conjunction with the UCI and British Cycling, the racing was crucial to the riders who were after the all-important points.

Commenting on the event, Ian Williams, Fat Face events manager, said: "Despite weather conditions against them it was great to see so many locals battling with the wind and rain to spectate, surviving for as long as they did!

"The speed at which these guys come down the race track is phenomenal and the precision and skill required is exceptional and a real spectacle to watch.

"Thanks to Scarborough Borough Council for all their help, Extreme Medics, the spectators and the awesome riders! Also a big shout to our event partner, Jagermeister for a great after-show party at The Mansion."

Peter Booth, Deputy Mayor of Scarborough Borough Council attended the Prize Giving and thanked the riders and Fat Face for making the event such a success, inviting event organisers to bring it back next year.

The generosity of the bikers and crowd shone through when they were asked to dig deep to help raise money for the Sheffield Intensive Care unit for children. This was in memory of Fat Face Team Rider, Kim Bent and her husband, Dom's son Finley. People were stuffing notes into the tins, eager to help such a worthy cause. A final count of the tins is yet to be made but check out www.fatface.com later in the week.

The Fat Face Night Ride brings to a conclusion this year's Night Series which started in May with the Night Ski and continued throughout the summer with the Night Surf, Night Sail, Night Air (mountain boarding), Night Jump (wakeboarding) and Night Windsurf.
