Fox 40 tuning?
« on: August 27, 2008, 15:03:25 PM »

hello!
I was reading the new Dirt review of the trek 88 and they were saying that they liked boxxers better than the 40s but the 40s got much better with custom tuning. I've got some 40s and they felt absolutely gash riding in France but it turned out that the bladder was blown (I don't really know what that means) which got fixed under warranty.

I got them serviced after a year by mojo and they did something to the shim stacking, is there anything else I could do to make them feel better.

They actually feel quite nice at the moment, but I was just wondering

cheers

You can't get the BOS internals any more for other manufacturers forks.

It sounds like they changed the shim stack in the damping cartridge for you. Which 'is' something you can do yourself, and the instructions are on the Fox website. Be warned though, as its easy to trash the cartridge & Mojo will relieve you nearly £300 for a new one.

There is more you can do than changing the shim stack, but you really need to understand the intricacies of suspension tuning & its impacts to what effect it will have on the actual feel of the forks.

If you're brave, have a play, even things such as changing the oil weight in the cartridge can have an effect on the feel of the fork. Be prepared though, for if you make an expensive mistake!
