Wide Bars on HTs?
« on: August 29, 2008, 20:50:32 PM »

More specifically, wide bars on trail dirt jump MTBs.

DHers have gone to wide bars, so have BMXers, why not us DJ folk?

I met a guy in Portreath, he was running 790s on his 24seven, and they looked wicked! and they rode amazing!

So why has it not started being done? Is there some hidden downside that i will not find out until i buy?
Im thinking Burgtec Ride Wides on a Sunline Vone on my Revell, would probably save weight to an extent, improve stability  and added pimp factor.

Basically, correct me if im wrong, but the advantages of Wide Bars is more stability and control? isnt that what everyone needs?

So to conclude, Will it ride better? And is it worth doing?

Well ive never been bothered by tricking, id much rather have a super nice table than a barspin or X-up.

And the guy at the track said it wasnt much worse really, He rides for Flow, but was on Jack Gears spare bike, i cant remember his name, Luke something?

Wide bars are good but not majorly wide bars. I rode my mate's bmx a few months ago and his bars were a little wider than usual (he runs crazy wide bars on his DH bike) and it felt a lot more stable, more like my downhill bike.

I'm pretty sure were up to 28inch in BMX now, possibly more but then the frames are tiny and the bars are a completly differetndesign and shape that makes it possible for them to be wider and still x-up/bar spin.

Only to some extent, if they are to wide then you will never get them round as you wont be able to twist the bike properly

I ran 3'' open prisons on my Revell a while ago, the width was a little small to be honest, they felt okay i suppose.

I will probs go to about 750 and see how it goes. I will report back!

Do BMXers only go to 28in?! I ran 28in bars for ages and didnt think they were especially wide!

I've been running uncut Fli XXL's on my hardtail for 2/3 months.

Love it and won't run anything narrower.  I don't DJ, but for 4x and a bit of trails'ing they feel mint.

How wide are FLi XXLs? I rode a set on Lees XC bike and they felt nice!
