Well i don't ride dh. I ride xc, road, street and dabble in bmx race and have never liked using anything over 620mm so can't really comment (6ft)
it must just be a matter of personal preference, my bike came with mini bars! must have been under 600s! and they felt cool for street, bunnyhops are piss easy with mini bars! But for everything else it was crap! XXL's are 760mm which is 30".
Rootes
Oh wow sounds good, i will look into them, im thinking maybe going a bit more tame at about 720s. But i might just get XXLs, and if i cant stand it, lop 10mm of either end. Is it possible to make proper bar extensions that i could run bar ends in and i wouldnt have to use lock on grips?

Are all Pro 2s made badly or is it just me? I am thoroughly annoyed by the whole thing. Revell 250r

DHers have gone to wide bars, so have BMXers, why not us DJ folk?
Because we're not trendwhores. Please, put a sock in it. Wide bars (at least for dh) simply make sense. There's more leverage so there's a greater turning force. Obviously there's a maximum width that someone would benefit from, depending on the width of their shoulders (N.B. NOT height, I'm 5"8 and run 750's). However, I can't see there being many advantages for dirt jumping as there isn't a lot of turning/leaning into corners involved, but it may make it feel more stable. Just go with what you feel comfortable with, it's all personal preferrence. Don't listen to twats like the above quote, just run what feels right for you. Well its more towards trails riding that i do. Needing good control is key to looking good, if you cant move the bike about in the air you are a bit screwed. and plus, i just prefer riding with that bit wider bars, im thinking somewhere around 720s or 740 ish. I have a mate with 720s on his 250r, he is extending up to 760, i will ride his and see how his feel, then ill decide for myself. loads of people i know run wideish up to bout 28" for dirt, i used to run 27s. dont really make x ups and bars spins any harder once you used to it. might be harder to learn them i supose, certainly helps with style
this is what i say! I saw the guy at the track dialling barspins, x-ups and tailwhips with ease. He said flips were easier! It is just getting used to it that is harder! I reckon i will give it a go
