You want a good sprint ??
« on: August 29, 2008, 21:47:32 PM »

get your arse down your local velodrome/track and get training !

seriously , i consider my self fit and fairly capible on a bike ... i got my arse handed to me on a plate in my first ever race on the track! ive ridden on them a few times but never raced till last night

the speeds you can get up to , the flying lap for 440metres was done at 30mph plus ! on fixed wheel

great fun and certainly a challenge ,and today my quads hurt like hell from the sprints i had to put in just to stay with the pack !

There is an outdoor cycle track in the park 500 yards from my house!
Score!
I might give it a go, my Revell isnt quite the bike for it though, I have a few friends who swear by track racing, there are meetings at my local on most wednesdays and some big ones monthly!

I will have a go on one of their bikes, id love the experience really.

Cheers for telling me Smiley

My college (well ex college) used to drive us to the one at Calshot on some gifted and talented sport program or something was really good. Cos they have bikes there and we all had a laugh racing eachother. The teacher who took us is involved in the Brighton velodrome team too so he got some of team down with us to show us how it's done and stretch to be better. But like trail rat says your legs burn for a couple of days afterwards.

Watching them on the olympics and road cycling, its crazy how close they all get together, I couldn't have some one right behind me on dh track, and id dislike it more if i had ti be really close to ssomeone infront. I know exactly what happens when trains go wrong on dirt jumps. It only takes one rider to go a little wrong for a serious accident to occcur. I am sure its the same on the track, especially at the speeds they can hit.
But the United Kingdom are really good at track cycling, just look at the last world champs indoor in manchester and the more recent olympics.

ive had a work colleague and team mate getting on at me to get racing for ages as it would help my mtb

hes on the olympic devo squad for the uk and he litterally kicked my arse ... over 440 meters he was nearly 10 seconds quicker than me ....

but he is a sprinter , the kilo etc is his forte

struggles in longer races

as for riders making a mistake ... other than stopping pedaling or clipping a wheel not a whole lot to do ... cant brake !

I've ridden at Newport a good couple of times and got in with the Welsh Talent team's session somehow. They're totally different to anything else you've ridden. The G's you pull trying to hold the red line in flying 200s is immense. I've got a 12 something I think on 200m, so that's not too bad but nowhere near the top guys!

Best experience though was Team GB having the session after us and watching Pendleton training for the Keiren (sp), she was warming up with laps that I couldn't do when sprinting!

Course you did fella...you've trained for endurance/distance.....can't have your cake and eat it matey...different muscle fibers involved.

Those lads train more squats etc than anything else off of the track.
