Duane and co. Scotland report (lots of pics)
« on: August 30, 2008, 10:18:16 AM »

(This was originally written for another forum, so it might not all make sense)

Right, so was up in Scotland for 4 days this week, with my bro (Glen) and my mate (Loz).

Brief run-down of what "went down"...

Glentress-
Did the majority of the red run, good fun, Spooky Woods was good, but we lol'ed afterwards at the guy who said it wasnt pedally... Did the bottom half again, and then pished up to do the 2 secret bits (Secrets&Lies and BroonTroot). Hilarious really. Soo muddy, dark, slippy, wet etc, numerous slow funny crashes, best sections of the trail really Cheesy
Then hopped onto the black to do Ewok-Village etc, again good stuff. Spent rest of day farting around in the FR park, nice having a mix of stuff close together- although was a bit sluggish on the full-sussers. Did the majority of the stuff there, except the first wall (slipped down it a couple times ) Glen was also slowly getting used to jumping which was really good Smiley

1. Glen on one of the tables

2. Loz tweak

3. Odd table thing

4. Largest of 3 drops

5. Which lead to this... (I only weigh 11stone!)

6. X-up of box

7. X-up on table

8. Whip on table

Innerliethen-
Met up with GW for a few hours, which was really good. Pushed to top of DHs, and just slowly made our way back down, sessioning different sections, pushing back up bits etc. Hit some nice tables/doubles on Make-orBreak (pics below), and some fun techy stuff (which we havent really ridden much of before).
After Gary left we took some pics at the bottom bit, and then as we were heading back to the cars, Disaster1 struck...

Dodgy whip on little table + Loose rear wheel + Cheap rear mech (borrowed SRAM X-5) = Snapped mech + 6 snapped spokes + annoyed me = Find nearest bike shop in Inners = New 721 rim + set of spokes + X-7 mech + gear cable + wheel rebuild = £118

Ah well, needed a new rim and rebuild, so Ill get over it. Guy built me the wheel (well) in about 1hr30 too, so that was ace.

9. Loz on bomb-hole jump

10. Me on bomb-hole jump

11. View from near top with me Gary and Loz

12. Whip on table

13. Gary whipping/tabling

14. Table on table

15. Riding some roots

Mabie-

Headed straight over to the orange bits. First was Vaders Lair, again funny as we havent ridden much shore before, so many funny offs  Then the Darkside which was... interesting... To be fair we could ride most of it, as the majority of it was 1- 1.5ft wide which is ok, just the really narrow skinnies and rocky bits were interesting.
Then headed over to the RaceTrack, played about on a big rock thing, and the Kona drop (and tech drop to the right of it), and also the NS hip to rock landing.
Glen then went and did the rest of the red (although he cut out the very end bit), he said it was good fun, nice flowy sections with lots of narrow berms. Loz and I did a secret DH which was short but sweet, nice and slippy Smiley
We all met back up at the Mini-X, pushed to the top a few times but mainly just rode the last 3 jumps (double, table, step-up). Also did the long skinny after a couple of attempts.

16. Darkside

17. Lots of this (with me helping by laughing)

18. And this

19. Glen riding a steep rock

20. T-bar on Kona drop

21. Loz doing tech drop, me doing Kona drop

22. Hip thing (check out rear tire)

23. Glen at Mini-X

24. Berm

25. Twin whippage

26. Table, X-Up

Ae-

Last day, headed over to Ae. Drove, no sorry, pushed to the top a couple times, run was good fun, although a bit shorter than I thought it would be, and not as techy (although guess that would be a bit different at race speed). Did the stepdown a couple times which was fun.
Loz headed back home, and me and Glen headed over to the end of Omega Man. Disaster2. Drop (which my bro doesnt like), OTB, nice gouge out of the elbow and bruised/grazed hip. At least it was last day/ride of the holiday, but obviously still a bummer...

27. Standing next to stepdown

28. Sequence of stepdown (2nd time)

* Really good riding, hope to return soon.
* Didnt get as much done as we'd hoped, mainly XC, but nevermind, what we did ride was ace.
* Best day was probably GT, just for the variety (XC, DH, FR etc)
* Thanks a ton mc for the directions, awesome little tracks Smiley
* Thanks a ton GW for guiding us around Inners Smiley

Thats all, Duane Smiley

Good write up man.

Inners is by far the best place, as good as tress is it was just a bit too tame haha. (we were on big dh bikes though haha)
Spooky wood is s**t hot- ideal for a mid travel bike, or even a hardtail (top section though, as it does get a bit rougher down the bottom).

Nice pics too man.

Ta for the replies.

Yeah Spooky Woods was good, but a bit of a drag on the SX.
