First "biking shot"

Well heres my first ever "biking shot" well my favorite out of the day, I know its pretty bad but I'm just really after advice.



Advice please?

Not bad, but never that keen on full-on bum shots. Cant really see what hes jumping/the scale of it.

Err, S. or sports. Can't really remember  Grin
S setting means shutter priority. To shoot DJ (IE a moving subject) you want a shutter speed no less than 125 unless your panning. Make sure you hold the shutter button down halfway then snap at the appropriate moment. I assume you know how to use your shutter dial?! When in S mode press the little magnifying glass located bottom left of camera body. Then press it again to change certain settings. Change your focus mode to AF-C, your metering to the very top one (matrix) and your AF- Area mode the middle setting. If your light dial drops below 125 I suggest boosting up your ISO a little. 800 is the highest the D40 can really go before noise appears. This is just a basic setup which you can tweak to the kind of shooting your doing. Hope this helps. Tom

I think he means if he was pulling some trick or adding a bit of style rather than a straight jump.

I agree- regardless of whether or not the photo is amazing they are undoubtably better if the rider is actively doing something more than a straight air.
