Vivid rear shock, spring, hardware.
« on: September 01, 2008, 16:19:00 PM »

Have just purchased a vivid for my sunday, so just need to clarify a few things.
Springs and spring rates, what spring rates are people running? I'm coming from DHX running a 350lb I'm about 11.5 stone and it was fine. Is this going to be the same as I've heard the usual internet rumours of them coming up softer/harder etc.
Also titanium springs. Other than Obtanium are there any other that fit? I don't want rumours on this i want someone who has fitted one.
And finally what are people doing about getting mounting hardware? Fishers don't stock the 30mm x M10 needed for the sunday, are other users just going to BETD or is someone else doing them?

Cheers Oli.

Sorry, i don't want to p!ss on you fire, but i've heard of compatibility issue with sundays and vivids, due to the size of the spring (diameter) in the 'hole'. Im sure someone else one here can clarify this  Undecided.

Cheers didnt realise nuke proof were doing specific Vivid springs, ill give hotlines a ring and see when there expecting stock.

Drop in rules - Some DW links need a slight modification to prevent the compresion? adjuster from fouling the frame, nothing a little bit of filing cant solve.

I'am aware of this, but iv seen quite a few 07 sundays with Vivid's on and since the 09 bike are coming with Vivids im pretty confident it will fit.

Does anyone have experience with spring weights?

the heavier weight the spring is the wider it gets. the spring gets slightly wider when you increase the spring weight. but i believe 350 and below worked just about fine on the sundays. also, you will need to file you're dw-link if you havn't got the new one. and ti springs will cos loads a money for a vivid, and i have heared they are slightly fatter then the steel ones, so it may not fit in a sunday???

It's been a pretty big problem for them! You will need to confirm the O/D of the spring you want to fit, as there should be a gap, as the spring will not only rub when stationary but under compression when it distorts they rub more seriously...

What model year is your Sunday?

Generally, you should be able to get away with a slightly lighter spring on the Vivid, but that all depends on your personal suspension tastes.

i run a vivid with either a 350lb or 300lb spring on my 08 sunday frameset and they fit fine the shock itself and spring, i was not aware that nuke proof have made a vivid spring yet as it has a wider internal diameter so worth checking with hoitlines

Finally someone with actual experience. Mines an 07 frameset, i was already aware i would have to file the dw link that was never an issue. I actually got the shock today and only need to remove a small amount of material. However I'm severally struggling for a spring fishers are out of stock of both 300 and 350, and a certain rock shox tuning and service centre wouldn't give me a trade or even a discount on the springs (i work in my lbs). All iv been able to get hold of is a steel nuke proof in a 300 as they are out of 350's as well. Will try and get a 350 to see which i prefer and then get an obtanium i think, seems like they re the way forward.
