Right I have no idea how many people who use Aston Hill actually look at this part of the Forum, but I (+ the rest of the comittee), The Forestry and The local residents are all getting sick of the number of people riding the hill outside of the official opening times. I catch on average 5 riders each day I am up there in the week working on the tracks, and sometimes far more.
It is a total pain in the ar*e, especially when trying to repair corners and parts of the track, as ideally they need to settle for a few days before being ridden, but are not getting the chance due to selfish riders who for some reason think they are special.....!!!
So heres a little FAQ (1 question, several answers):
Why shouldn't I ride Aston Hill when it's closed?
1. The Forestry commission do not want people in there unsupervised as it is a huge risk. They are incharge of the land, and kindly agree to let us use it, which they do not have to do or continue to do.
2. The local residents do not like or approve of it, and we need their continued support.
3. We need time to work on the trails while there are no riders around. This is because much of the time the trail needs to settle after being modified / maintained. Using bits of trail before they have had a chance to settle almost always severley damages it, thus making it worse for all riders, and meaning it has to be repaired again, which is a waste of time!!
4. By ignoring the rules you are putting the future of Aston Hill in jeopardy
If I / we continue to find riders using Aston Hill outside of opening times, we will seriously consider moving forward with plans to make the trails unuseable when closed..
