the santa cruz v8 was code name for the vp free from what my little google dragged up back in 2003 :s so maybe the code name has been used again but i doubt that

I have no idea what epicyclic means, but what it is is a BOX two speed planetary chainring gear (err, so its a Hammer Schmitt) and BOX say it''ll be out in a year or so (so, they missed the boat).

As for the new VP-Free, there is nothing at Eurobike (well, the new more XC nomad is there which leave a nicer gap for the VPFree to fill...). I wouldn't have thought SC would show anything until Interbike and then perhaps maybe even Sea Otter next year, 'cos they have a lot on ATM with new bikes (BT2, Nomad and Jackal).

No, thats the same as its been for a while now. It was at eurobike 'cos the european distributors have not yet sold all their stock, so are still selling them. SC in the USA sold out ages ago.
