Truvativ holzfeller cranks.
« on: September 05, 2008, 15:20:41 PM »

Well basically , i've had these cranks for a good year or so , and until about a month ago they started to make awful sounds as i was pedaling. And especially when i put my weight onto my pedals. and every time i ride now , the left crank arm comes loose , to the point where it's impossible to pedal. And in some cases , the crank falls off. And i've iv'e tried tightening it up , but after a mile of riding , it comes loose again ..
i know that truvative cranks have a nasty habit of coming loose. So is there anything i can do to prevent this from happening , or is it just a case of getting new cranks completely ?
Cheers.

You not got the lock-ring on properly, if at all?
Mine never came off, and when they made a noise i just took them off, took out the bb, cleaned, re greased and fitted again with no problems.

Change the bolt, cover it with threadlock, tighten it up, leave it overnight.
Should do the trick  Wink

Yeah mine on my cowan do this...

^^^^ the above solutions for the loosening issue probably wont work, apparently its a design flaw and they all end up doing it Tongue

you have to be careful when tightening cranks as all components these days have torque settings which are not just there for show a holzfeller crankset is 54-56 inch pounds if you have them set at this from when you buy it you should not have any problems, but with any crankset you do need to strip and rebuild them every every few months as dirt will still get into the splines what ever the make

I had this problem.. needed a new bb. Been fine since *touch wood* the. In the old one the bearings were smashed apart and the bearing cages were just no more! Tongue
