« on: September 06, 2008, 21:10:19 PM »

Hi,

just got some new forks, but i cant seem to get the crown race of my old ones...

they are 07 DJ3's. there is a little indent thing, but it doesnt go further enough in so i cannot get underneath ot to wedge it out.

any suggestions as to how i can get it out?

Many Thanks,

Rob

I usually use a chisel and tap it under the edge of the crown race then repeat from diff angles ect.

If you want to kep the forks looking perfect- good bike shop with one of these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=27047

Otherwise, flat bladed screwdriver and drive it under the race with a hammer, working all the way around it gradually.

same as terminator, but hit it softly, when you put it on your new forks, use a piece of wood and tap it down around the CR gradually.

Say bye bye to your working chisel  Roll Eyes flat blade screwdriver maybe? like rock3gozy suggested?

I wouldnt want to use a chisel after it had knocked a crown race off

No no and no to all of the above. Find your self a decent size wood nail and tap it in 4 opposite places underneath the crown race.  Next time put some grease on the ID of the crown race when you put it on.

The chisel is about 6 years old and the handle is dying, It's of no other use.
