Are, Sweden (Pics)
« on: September 07, 2008, 09:40:15 AM »

Was off to Are in Sweden the other week - great place to ride, very relaxed and very quiet, no lift cues and pretty much the trails to yourself at times.

I would recommend it, flights on Norwegian Air from Stanstead to Trondheim are reasonable (think we paid around £100 return).
You could get the train from Trondheim/Vares(?) airport direct to Are (2 hours).
The Skistar (Fjallbey) place we stated in was pretty ok.

Can't beat being the only rider on the mountain some mornings - just me and the lift folks. Got to be worth a trip!

is there a lot to do round there, as in how long can you keep occupied and with what sort of riding, Looks like an interesting place.

yeah im also interested in Are now. are all the trails easy to find? and are they all based around a single location (like whistler) or are they spread over several valeys (like pds). oh and finally if you dont mind me asing, how long did you go for and was there enough trails to keep you entertained for the duration. sorry for all the questions. thank you in advance.

The last one is a fluke more likely!  Wink

Ok questions -
Riding is very much DH orientated, in addition to the DH tracks (graded green to black) there is a slope style section with drops and boxes, etc.
We were there for 12 days, which looking back on it was probably a bit too long, 5 to 7 days would be great I reckon.
Trails are very easy to find, all are marked out and you can easily pick up a trail map at the lift station. There are two main lift out of Are - one big telecabine to take you to the top and another chair beside it (VM6).
Its very much like a mini Whistler (not not quite the variety ... and certainly not the crowds).
They are building new trails at the moment (new line cut for this years maxi/mega avalanche event) - some sections (Shimano trail) are like shortened versions of A Line.

Also need I mention the tall, slim, attractive blondes? Sauna World in town is worth the expense!  Wink

Drop Andy @ Dreamride a line and he'll fix you up.
