Hardtail frame choices - help needed
« on: September 07, 2008, 12:37:33 PM »

Hey guys,

I've finally persuaded my mates to get into mountain biking, and they've gone and bought XC type rigs (Iron Horse Warriors).

I've been out with them a couple of times and just can't keep up - my bike isn't designed for going anywhere! I run an NS Suburban, 24" hoops, Argyles and a low seat and real DJ geometry.

I'm looking into getting a new frame and most probably some 26" wheels. But I'm not sure which frames to look at - as this will be my one and only bike I want it to be aggressive, but still be able to do XC type rides.

The NS Surge looked to be ideal - but the fork length is between 120 and 160mm, and I have Argyles at 100mm.

So, I need a frame that will take 26" wheels, 100mm forks and still be able to rip the dirt jumps when I'm not roaming around the XC loops of Hamsterley.

Suggestions?

Cheers,

Jim

Why oh why can't people use the search function.

Other than that, a Dialled prince albert in 15.5"/17.5" would fit the bill spot on.

DMR Trailstar - one of the best all rounders ever made

big enough for trail riding yet nimble enough for serious DJing and DH

I was looking at the surge for the same duties as you've listed.

Im opting for the NS Society, any good to you?

Also, perhaps look at swapping your Argyles for some Pikes, then you'd have the travel adjust option.

Cheers for the replies so far.

Ideally I'd swap the Argyles for Pikes but it's just money to be honest - my Argyles are in mint condition and their resale value would be nothing compared to what I bought them for.

The Trailstar seems nice but again the current new frames have been updated for use with 120-130mm forks.

Hmm, choices choices!

SC chameleon?

Has to be the ultimate versatile all rounder if you are happy with aluminium.
