Flash Tripod.
« on: September 10, 2008, 15:56:56 PM »

Looking to get a tripod for my flash but unsure what to look for. All eBay returned was mega expensive stuff or dead cheap (and I presume not particularly good) stuff.
One thing though, I can't see any obvious tripod mounting point on my flash, unless you can attach it via the hotshoe bit, but even then I would like to be able to mount the camera to it occasionally. (Or am I being dull and you can of course get both these features on a tripod?)
Running a Vivitar 285HV, and cactus V2's if that makes any difference.

So any brand names that sell fairly cheap tripods, no need to be fancy or anything, would be great.

Cheers.

right go on www.7dayshop.com and search for there own tripods ( they do full size and mini ones ) i have both and theya re great for flashes. fully adjustable and go up to good heights ( the small one is fully featured just smaller )

then get one of these :

or with my old ebay gear there where tripod l brackets on the bottom ? if so just screw on to them.

see the bit its stood on here , the screw on the plate on the top of the tripod just screws in to that hole.

Alternativly..
you have a Vivitar 285's like me,There massive, and when mounted onto the Cactus.. very very unstable...
So i did this:

Cactus on the side, with elastic
Synk cable going onto the vivitar (Comes with vivitar flash)
On the bottom i have a thing.. which i think is called a Coldshoe, got it of ebay basicly shoe mount oneside, tripod thread the other..

It means the flash isnt waveing around in the air as much.. which you dont want with the vivitar concidering its so big!

Another option to mount to a tripod is one of these:

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=Flash+Shoe+hot+Swivel+Holder+Bracket+Mount+Light+Stand

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Flash-Shoe-hot-Swivel-Holder-Bracket-Mount-Light-Stand_W0QQitemZ220280956933QQcmdZViewItem

You can also get eBay light stands for £9.99 plus postage.  They give much more height than a tripod so great for big jumps, trails etc.

Joby Gorilla Pod is officially the best thing to mount flashes to, it can be put anywhere! I regularly put mine up trees. I have even attached them to riders, the amount of stuff you can do with one of them is amazing.

Cheers for the suggestions.

Went for a £10.99 one from 7dayshop.com in the end. Arrived this morning and it looks really good actually.
