Ambiguous and poorly worded rules
« on: September 13, 2008, 22:59:19 PM »

I have recently had a sales topic removed as I had an ebay item number listed in my post.  I read the forum rules and they currently state "You are NOT allowed to post ebay links in the sales sections. We are NOT an auction site."

A LINK is commonly regarded as an HTTP Link directly to a site.  by listing an item number this is NOT a direct link.

If the forum is going to lay down rules... for whatever misguided reason, I think there should be an effort made to CLEARLY state the rules before enforcing action.

regards,

wrongly done to.

the point of it was if the item is for auction on ebay then it stays on ebay. its so the classifieds dont turn into a list of expired ebay auctions.

Actually thinking this through.  If forums are supposed to represent the interest of people intrested in the forum topic. How is it detromental to prevent forum users from knowing about Ebay auctions ?  Its not like the forum is getting a % for each item sold in the For sale parts.

I would suggest that 99% of people would prefer to direct sell through the forum first, then if that fails, after  a while, the last resort is to ebay your item.  Most of us want to sell without ebay as this means we suffer no fees, so therefore by advertising ebay Item #s it is not detromental in any way to the forum... actually its a good oppurtinity for the forum to gain wider exposure.

But most users post to say sold...and given that ebay is a time limited service. Any post advertising ebay listings could be deleted within 10 days of the original listing as thats the maximum duration of any ebay auction.  Im not sold on your reasoning.

Um, how about- stop being boring and argumentative.

If your stuff is that desirable, it would have sold on Ebay by itself.

Surely if you've read the rules you'll know this is in the wrong place?

It seems to be accepted by most people that no ebay links means links, numbers or anything.  Thats just the way it is.

Are laws written and correctly worded or are we supposed to know that they are in force because they are "Just they way it is ?"

i think the term your looking for is petty , and pedantic seller

anything that sends you to ebay is a link , a link is not an HTTP pressy thing thats just what it means in your head

look up "link" in the dictionary ....

Quote
anything serving to connect one part or thing with another;

the 2 things in question being SDH and ebay , thus an ebay number on a forum becomes a link ...

at the end of the day if you dont like how the unpaid mods and owners deal with it and word their rules you are actually free to go else where and advertise ...youll find most well moderated and easy to use forums are exactly the same DW and even STW (which doesnt have many rules at all) operate a no ebay rule ...

im sure bikeradar allows chaos ...

A link, if you look in a dictionary, can also be a connection between two thing.

The "spirit" of the rule is quite clear. Your attempt to get around it failed. Really, get over it.
