Nikon 50mm f1.4 or f1.8 D60 compatibility?
« on: September 18, 2008, 19:47:53 PM »

Ok..
So I've read a lot about a 50mm 'normal' lens doing wonders for your skills, so ive been looking into them...
A few things though:

1) Why are they so great for improving skill?
2) Is it true that they arent compatible with my D60?
3) Is it worth spending £100 or so more to get the f1.4 over the f1.8?

Thanks  Grin

Wait for the AF-S 50mm 1.4 to be realeased in the coming months, i was anounced last week. Unlike the current 1.4 and 1.8 it will give you full AF function. Both current 50's will not give AF with D60 but will give an indication of focus through the electronic rangefinder, up to F5.6

With regard to people harping on about how beneficial a 50mm can be to the developement of someones skill i think the main thing they are relating to is that due to the fixed nature of the lens, it does to some extent force to put more thought into your composition, that you would possibly not with a zoom lens...

the new AF-s version will cost £280. Compared to £70 for the non AF version i would say its not worth the money.

Using manual focus is not the hardest thing in the world really. Save £200 and buy the 1.8 version.

and yes of course they are compatible with the D60
